Yep, then you just need to decide between FWD and RWD...

Out of those, it would have to be the BMW 120d.

I think it may splutter a bit, even with Ultimate derv!

I've heard that. Have they put that in the 147?

No, but the new 2.4 gives 210 bhp and 300 lbs-ft.

Not convinced about that - yes they have the same engine, but they are different cars and the three mentioned ahve very different qualities -

The Golf, for a start is next level up, the other two are superminis, and its common as muck!

The Ibiza is the "style and sporty" end of the market and it looks it.

The Fabia, if anything, is the annonymous one, even in vRS trim its not that much different to the standard car....

Of the four originals I would lean initially towards the 120d, but I would probably get the vRS as I like that wolf in sheeps clothing bit - and before we get any comments about it not being very hot - I'd then go to the BRISKODA site and look up what can be done to them for very little money! Wink

What about the Vauxhall Astra. Triple8 did a bonkers one of those.

Blair, yep, a stock-looking vRS, with a crafty 180 bhp/300 lbs-ft, makes for a quick car and will surprise many a HH pilot.

Renault have a 170 bhp diesel engine. Could be handy if fitted to a clio. Same for the 180 bhp derv toyota lump in a auris.

The newest dervs make quick real-world cars, even if the paper figures aren't quite up there yet.

No! That would indicate that they are all the same with just a different body... they're not, they all have different characters, handling, etc, and I'd suggest built and appeals to different types of buyers....

so although polo, fabia and ibiza actually do have very different looks ad characters, chances are they will drive very similarly...??...

..again, not speaking from experience, but i would imagine the ibiza to 'feel' sportier due to the perceived image of seat as the 'sporting' brand, and therefore it will probably have stiffer springs, sharper steering, the polo will drive like a polo..solid, stolid..and the skoda should be softer, more comfortable....but all will go very, very hard....
