So then which is better in your opinion?

I personally can think of nothing better than a high revving naturally aspirated engine, like an M3's straight six...what a noise!

if were talking about the sound, its a hard one.
i love the sound of a v6/v8 at low revs and i love the sound of a BDA being thrashed but i dont think you can beet the noise of a turbo'ed v6 (but then in biased)

I know what you mean, I love the noise of a thumping great na v8, but then again I see the appeal of a turbo v6.

I guess it's horses for courses really.

To answer the original question, yes it depends. On what you want from an engine.

There is no 'best'.

Must admit that the Saleen a few years ago was very good at the races. You could see the crowd all vibrate two feet to the left when it went by.

The Corvette, with it's 7.4 litres of virtually unsilenced side pipes sounded incredible going up through 4-5000 rpm.

Why re-educated? Don't you like the sound of a big-block Chevvy?
Confused

Forced induction is a compromise, and a cheap way of getting power from a small engine in a cheap car.

The very best engines are naturally aspirated.

Oli they are pretty good, but noisy compared to the new AMG models which are naturally aspirated. Somehow the V12 versions which are turbocharged seem to be smooth and as quiet as a whisper even at speed and under hard acceleration.

Supercharging is probably the best of the forced induction methods, but for me, I would still prefer an atmospheric pressure system.

Would you want a totally silent supercar though?
For me, sound is a big part of it all.
