...i think the volvo is the prettiest and most thoughhtful design in this market sector...most other manufacturers are just using a sledgehammer to crack a nut...ie cayenne, x5 and q7.....

My next door neighbour is an Audi salesman, he regularly arrives back of an evening in the very latest beardmobiles. Having now been privy to a silver Q7 TDi blocking out the sun/moon/pretty much everything you would otherwise see from the front window on numerous occasions I can categorically state that the Q7 is the ugliest car ever manufactured.

Utterly, utterly hideous.

Boig, i totally agree.

I see one around here quite often and it is thoroughly offensive. A gaping-mouthed obscenity which should not be disgracing the roads of West London.

Hard to think that it is losely based on the VW Touareg which is quite a pleasant SUV.

Audi have achieved the unthinkable. Made the rest of the range look less offensive than they already are by introducing the Q7!!

Here in Greece Porsche Cayenne 3.2 costs 75000Euro(50000£) when Volvo XC90 COSTS 65000Euro(43000£).In the UK the prices of these two cars are similar. So Volvo XC90 is not a cheap car.Secondly Audi Q7 is a full size SUV rather than a mid size SUV.So Audi Q7's main competitors are the Land Rover Range Rover and Mercedes G-class.So it cannot be compared in price or size with either the Volvo XC90 or Mercedes M-class or BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne. The best of all is Volvo XC90.Reasonably priced,7 seater, european dimensions, very good on road, does the job off the road quite well, and is the best car in class concerning safety.

I have to add that diesel versions are not imported here in Greece as it is illegal to drive diesel cars in either Athens or Thessaloniki(50%of population)because the cities are surrounded by mountains...

I like that! The other place which is similar is California and the SF valley and their polution is as bad as ever and they don't have many diesels either!

Love it when politicians get involved, all we get is a load of cr*p! Its "internal combustion" engines which are poluters, there's not a lot of difference between petrol and diesel in that respect, save Athens and that other place will have a lot higher levels of Carbon Monoxide that all those petrol engines produce!

Its nice to know that oether country's politicians are even more loopy than ours!

Can't see that somehow. Posing in an Audi Q7 would be like showing off a new girlfriend to your mates .... having just pulled Jade Goody.

Here in Greece it is a bit different. The quality of diesel for trucks is very bad as it is mixed with diesel for home heating systems as the taxes for the second type are lower-more profits(Natural gas has recently started here but it is not very widespread). Moreover, taxis and small trucks wich are allowed to use diesel do not go their cars for service...!!!So diesel engines produce more particulate matters(PM-10) and as mainly Athens and secondly Thessaloniki are surrounded by mountains, especially in summer and in no windy days or days with high relative humidity(both cities are next to the sea),particulate matters increase making living dangerous...Conditions have improved with Athens Olympics when the taxi car park was renewed with modern technology cars and intensifying controls followed.Government is pressed by the local car importers and car makers to permit diesel cars circulation in Athens and Thessaloniki metropolitan aereas. This is possible in few years time when EURO V engines appear. Then no particulate matters will be emitted by diesel engines..But the big problem remains the mixing of these types of diesel. This could be changed only by increasing tax for diesel for heating systems(and compansating with annual direct taxing with all the bureaucracy that includes and making the economy and lower-income classes suffer)or decreasing tax for autos' diesel(decreasing tax revenues!).So it is a more complex problem.
Even if diesel car engines were allowed,I would not buy a diesel-powered car for this reason as this mixture is very harmful for modern-technology engines.

Oh dear, what a mess! Have your gov not heard of particulates from petrol engines, or are they chosing to ignore them?!

If it was like that over here I could understand Noxmira's arguements better, in fact I would agree with them!

Sounds like they need a strong MOT test like we have and at the same time the introduction of Low Sulphur diesel and strict standards ASAP!

BTW I wouldn't mind seeing our emmissions test extended to petrol engines over here, just recently I've been gassed several times by petrol cars, even had to overtake them just to get away from the smell!

Greece have got the right idea.

Everytime i am sitting behind a diesel car and being choked by its thick black particulates which pollute the atmosphere & stink to high heaven, i shall think of this.

If i was transport minister, id ban them from London too.

After all, we are the richest city in Europe. What on earth do we want these rattling, filthy, agricultural behemoths here for?

The next modification for my car is going to be one of those drop down oxygen masks, Aeroplane style.

See a TDi in front - alarm bells rang and mask drops down. Sitting behinds these bellowing soot machines is worse than smoking, don't you know!

I agree with the comments about noxious diesels. I see from 'News' that the USA is the next target for diesels. This may result in cleaner diesels for us all (even buses may catch up in 20-30 years). In the meantime, I'll keep using LPG and enjoy the advantages of a smooth, clean, quiet petrol engine, and the running costs of a diesel.
