Agreed.
Budget £100K used.
Near as possible to a McLaren.

4 year old 996 turbo with 600 bhp upgrade, looking as good as anything else then.

2006 Corvette with 700 bhp conversion, too.
Great handler going by most reports.

What about a GT2, with a suspension upgrade?
My theory was right though, this side of a McLaren F1, Professor Doctor H.C. Ferdinand Porsches cars are all that can come close.

Elementary, my dear Clarkson.

No Porsches have an engine in the boot, and the rear engined layout is superb.

Prbably, but rubbish interior an looks like a kit car. What about an Ultima rolling chassis and engine, with ORIGINAL Porsche gearlever,(they've tried to move it to the right for some bizzare reason), and McLaren F1 bodywork.

Elementary, my dear Clarkson.

The cheapest option would be a McLaren F1 replica.
Tuned Corvette engine and top spec running gear.

Anyone for 750 bhp and 1200 kgs?

No one makes one. I will have a go, one day. I'd use the chassis design of an Ultima GTR, but made of aluminium rather than steel, and aluminium bodywork. I'd have brembo brakes and a Getrag gerabox. Not sure about the engine though.

Cheapest one to source would be the 7011cc Corvette engine.
They go to 750 bhp easily.
With huge torque from just above idle.

Alternatively, if the car was really light, say 800 kgs, you could get away with the engine from a Nissan Skyline, 2.8 litres and a safe 500 bhp.

I'd want something like a BMW V12, really. Will manufactures supply you with just an engine?

Some will. You can easily get American V8s, for example.

As for the F1? STILL the greatest in my opinion.

I agree... despite all these new challengers such as the F50 & Enzo, Carrera GT, Zonda, Koenigsegg and even the Veyron, the F1 is still the best.

That's because all the others have missed the point and made cars that are simply too big (and especially too wide) to hustle along almost any real world road.
