Friend of mine is thinking of buyin a Peugeot 407 coupe GT diesel auto, a black one with burgundy leather. He has been offered one for 25k from drivethedeal.co.uk UK sourced and him as first owner. The list is 31k so seems like a bargain. What does the forum think of them? Ive seen a black one and the "mouth" is hiden which i think is a good thing. Anyone driven one or can point in direction of road tests other than on here or parkers/autocar/whatcar usuals?
I would not recommend one to my worst enemy if i had one. The reason being, they cost 25k+ but in three years time how much will they be? 8k? doesn't even look like good car.
They look fine, if hes got the cash why not? It's different at least.
As far as price goes - sounds alright, similar prices on autotrader. As said depreciation is a worry, I'm not sure I'd buy one new, but if he fancies it, sure.

£31000 for a diesel?
Madness.
Diesels are for economy cars and coupes are for driving.
Go for the 3.3 V6 automatic.
Magnificent car, its the only Peugeot i like
(along with the 407 V6 saloon which i think is stylish)
Peugeot have lost the plot in all other areas. They used to make very pretty cars, but not anymore except the 407 Saloon & Coupe.
Originally posted by MattW: They look much worse than the 406 coupé. Peugeot should have approache Pininfarina, rather than design it in house "on the cheap".
Absolutely right.
Someone who works for Peugeot obviously thinks he is pretty handy with a pencil case and a set of magic markers.
I don't really think the 350Z, megane etc. are alternatives to the 407. an alternative would be a coupe version of models of the same categorie ie. Passat, Mondeo, Laguna. In truth there isn't any, unless you count the E-class and 3 series coupe as one.

Couldnt agree more. For me its in the niche that cars like the old Couger sat in. 3 series CLK etc are really a class above this car but problem is the base cars are similar price to the v6 pug. Always debated what would i do in that situation base or top of a lesser model and i just dont think i could bring myself to drive base with no many toys even if the percieved ability was better and residules higher. I think the guy concerned is gonna get one he is like me stand out from the me too's kind of guy so i think he will like it. I actually like the way it looks in black coz the mouth at front doesnt look awkward what i dont like is the wing mirror position looks wierd on a coupe
Good idea... anything but one of those new frog-mobiles. Why dont Peugeot ditch this crappy 407 and go back to the 406 coupe which actually looked good.
407 saloon and coupe are ugly...estate is niceish.....406 coupe was good lookin car and is now criminally cheap.....dare i say, the 2.7 v6 hyundai coupe is a far better lookin car than any of the above, and is apparently a damn fine car...just the badge that frightens people...i saw a lovely red one with black alfaesque leather interior.....it looks like it should have been made in italy...christ if it was they could charge another 5 k for it...but it wouldnt be built so well i suppose..haha

If you can afford the poor residuals - go for it! Much better than the bland, common old BMW/Audi brigade.
*Many motoring writers have said that the diesel version is, in fact, the best of the 407 range. It is a good, advanced motor actually, with good power and excellent torque.*
ghastly diesel version lol Nox you must be spending too much time with Palmy! i havent heard the word ghastly used so much anywhere else!
Depreciation will be savage on the 407 Coupe, but it is a very good, attractive car. The 406 Coupe now makes the best used buy in it's class by miles, the V6 or diesel versions are best.
