Wow! That sounds like a hell of a car and at £60,000 a hell of a bargain. let's hope someone who usually would buy a jaguar XK or Porsche 911 does something original and orders an Iceni instead.

I somehow doubt it, as it has the dreaded "D" word that performance car "enthusiasts" can't say without choking! Wink

I have to say I'm worried. It looks like a TVR, is built by some clever engineering chappies in Norfolk and hasn't got any proper performance figures.
It's not the best formula for a big selling, revolutionary sports car.

Don't think its billed as a "big selling, revolutionary" sports car - its just a low-numbers sports car produced by a small company - quite a few around in this country....

That is the Chevrolet Silverado/Suburban/Military Hummer engine.

All very well in those vehicles but not in a sportscar.

Fast top end but it will be nasty and noisy inside, and will have a dull feel to it - diesels are not responsive enough in their power delivery, instead being crude and numb.

It may be cheap compared to other 200 mph cars - but its cheap for a good reason. I wouldnt even pay £60,000 for it.

Rather have a secondhand SL55 AMG.

Love the idea of a 230mph car capable of 0-60 in under 4 seconds being called slow - what does that make your AX, Nox, snail-like?

Predictable as always! Roll Eyes

Snail like, yes, I would be left for dust and expect to be.

But it's all in context b308.

Oh, yes, I did deliberately post the link, just to see if the two of them could, just for once, remove their blinkers and acknowledge that you could have a fast diesel car, but I should have known better, shouldn't I!

Never mind, with good old Mr Brown taxing our flights and fuel even more we soon won't have any money to spend on supercars! Wink

Sorry, Nox, what context is that, then?

Something like these:

http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/features/super-cars/

Its as fast as most of them and faster than some.

i like....i remember many moons ago, richard wilsher(motoring journo/engineer par excellence/turbo nutter and stalwart of the arrows f1 team) built a 1800 turbo diesel westfield powered by the agricultural sierra td engine..it was quick, frugal and totally oddball.....dunno how he found the time...he also built abonkers turbo 2cv for cars steve cropley and several td citroen visas...which were scary by all accounts.....how do i know these things...actually, how the f**k can i remeber sh*t like this from years ago when i got an a for french and an a for latin and cant speak a word of either...selective memory i suppose...

I would like to ask Palmira to keep an open mind and take a test drive in a Honda Accord diesel and report back to us if you think it is crude, numb and not responsive in power delivery.
And the same request to Noxide. Can you overcome your prejudice and give this a fair trial?

Actually, I think the Honda Diesel is a superb unit and very quiet even on start up and idle.

Have you actually driven one yet? If so what did you think to the driving experience compared to VAG or Citroen diesels and to petrol cars?

I can speak fairly and squarely about modern diesels from actual experience, because i put 8,000 miles on my 2006 535d. (I also own a 55-plate Honda CRV 2.2 diesel which is superb).
The BMW was fast standard and very quick indeed after remapping to 334bhp. That same remapping surprisingly improved the fuel consumption and raised the torque to a monumental 506 lbs. I saw an average of 38 mpg taken over my last 4 tankfuls. The best i saw was almost 50 mpg and the worst 27 mpg.
I have to say that the slightly noisy idle never worried me, neither did the roar when really going for it.
I realise that Palmy and Noxy don't like diesels and that's fine. But as an owner of one of the most 'petrol-engined' cars ever sold, my current M3 CSL, i have to admit my utter respect for the 535d. A brilliant car which did just about everything well and has to be up there as one of the best all-round cars on sale anywhere at any price.
Very fast, very comfortable, handled much better than i expected, well equipped, very high crash protection, capable of effortless 150 mph cruising where allowed. After delimiting it did 175 mph too.
Bear in mind that the new 2006 335d has a lighter engine, which produces more power and torque in a car weighing less.
I absolutely love the banzai CSL but i also loved the 535d.
(Sorry Oli and Andy! Smile)

The 'Joint Venture Freightliner' truck has an engine to hold in awe.
Diesel.
But 2 superchargers and 4 turbo chargers, allied to 24 litres of swept volume make for a fainly absurd 4500 bhp whilst staying below 3000 rpm.
