i'l have the 72 edition.....the late sixties 911s are the purest shape and purest drving experience...obviuously the newer cars are far superior in terms of driving, but from an aesthetic point of view, very little touches an early small bumper 911 or 356 of any kind.....
70's one for me too, keep you awake more keeping the back end in check (the car's anyway)

the 72 carrera rs is a legend b, and would still run rings round many so called sportscars.....cooking 911's from the early days are not fast in absolute terms, but the rs is another kettle of fish.....

Know little about either but given a choice of any 911 ever, I'd take the one Robert Redford had in Spy Game.

Those old early 70s 911s and 912s are all very well but theyre ancient, slow and rickety now - not to mention extremely basic and extremely hard work. Yes they have character, but the good thing is that the current model is such an evolutionary design that it maintains the 911 character in its styling and layout.
But it does prove how things have moved on, despite masses of forced safety and other changes.
Many hot hatches make more power now and several have better power to weight ratios. These are also cars you can commute in, or go on holiday in, then a track day and the weekly shop too.
We've never had it so good.
The 997 turbo is the best street 911 ever by a very long way, the 997 GT3 RS the best track version.
yup...both of them would run rings round the old porker....well, vx220 definitely..in turbo form, its virtually a supercar!!....the s2000 handling is about as maligned as the porsche!!...i reckon it could be a close run thing with those two, certainly round a track....which proves as you say, we have never had it so good.....a readily availably, relatively cheap car could keep up and perhaps beat a seventies motoring legend.....but what price cool and class??it would be interesting to see this on a motoring show, but am pretty sure the carrera rs could still humble a few mainstream cars round a track.....
If i wasn't hankering after a lightly used EVO X 360, via a year driving an EVO lX 360, i would be seeking a Porsche 996 turbo for about £45K and spending another grand and a half making it 550bhp. Awesome cars.
But my friend with the yellow 997 turbo (with X50 option) is a very lucky fella indeed. I am quite happy to admit to a moderate amount of jealousy when we go and see him and his new car. He has a 200 mph set of wheels, which goes and handles fantastically well, yet he could happily go on holiday in the thing too!
2007 GT3 for sure. So advanced, so brilliant, so beautiful, so flipping fast! What an amazing car! If i ever become super rich this is the car i'll buy.
