A lot of people will have driven or been in car thats gone really fast, on a normal road, country road, motorway or similar.
What other modes of transport have you been in that has provided you with the adrenalin rush that high speed gives you?
The fastest I've driven is about 109mph in my focus 115bhp tdci. It was only for a few secs on the motorway but it felt pretty fast, not something I'd do though for any length of time even it was legal.
I've also gone fast on a mountain bike, going downhill on a normal road reaching 40-60mph. That beats the car for me. I also used to roller skate which can seem pretty fast too.
But best of all was on a skateboard. Not a standard one, but a professional one (£150+) with speed wheels and bearings. We used to lie flat on the board and then roll downhill on a bmx track navigating the bends on the way down using your whole body to steer the board. Because you were lying down, you could actually hear the noise from the wheels rolling next to your head and you could "feel" the speed.
Fastest I've been in a car was about 120 in an Elise. Obviously not me driving, one of the Lotus drivers when I had a tour of the factory, but that was epic
I like going downhill on a bike in a high gear, it's great fun. Except when idiots drive out of a side street without looking and I end up in their wing. That gets boring.
And I know what you mean by feeling speed, I could feel it in the Elise, partly because I'd never gone that fast before, but also because the roof was down and the chassis on that car is so responsive, you could really feel it working. Amazing. If I could buy one of those, bloody hell I would.
120mph indicated on a German Autobahn with me driving, 138-ish with someone else driving just recently......
The impression of speed is also relative to the conditions/location of where you are driving as well as what it is...
When racing the stock car we were flat out at about 85mph (in 2nd gear, mind!), but when you are on a track only 350 yds long and with a steel fence on the outside it feels damn quick!
Best adrenalin rush for me when driving has to have been when I took my friends' Honda 600 out - although I didn't really go that quick - nowhere suitable - the power and acceleration beat everything else - even my GPz gave me that sort of feeling if I felt that way inclined.....
For me it has to be skiing - 60+ mph down the black runs knowing that one wrong move and you've had it! Cars are a little too safe to get that kind of adrenalin pumping at any speed - maybe a motorbike would be more comparable.

someone who's sneakily calibrated their speedo to read double the actual speed -- I understand its only illegal for speedos to under read so in reality speed was 69mph ???
why is it when I stand on my head that sometimes, just sometimes ......?
About 60MPH on a go-kart, and about 50MPH on a mountain bike. Been driven at about 140MPH briefly, and probably been over 100MPH driving a couple times.
The 'double-ton' gives you an amazing feeling, as the speedo shows that particular landmark. The 2 cars i did those speeds in showed 208 and 212 mph, because of speedo error.
I could imagine Bams, I get a pretty good feeling looking down at my speedo to watch the needle bouncing gently off past the 280kph (174mph) end of the speedo on the 1100.
Especially considering Im at that point still in 4th...
(Done at legal drags before anyone has a go at me )
Si, sorry to be a pain, but it is highly unlikely that your bike will be geared for that sort of speed in 4th gear! If you look up the mph per 1000 rpm, 5th is good for 170 mph at the redline, so something is wrong, somewhere. What year and exact model is it, Si?
Yeah mine is just a 5 speeder. And remember Bams, I went up a tooth on the front. Lengthened the gears out quite a lot. Before I went up a tooth, it would do 160ish in 4th at redline.
