I believe Prof was considering one but given the glut of high performance cars currently emanating from the Fatherland, Prof has instead decided it would be much easier to just buy Germany. I hear he's planning to re-name the place Jeremany and move it to his drive, just next to the Aston.

What about a 1.2 P reg Corsa?
180,000 miles ex driving instructors car and original clutch. Racked up 110,000 in 4 years!
At home servicing for the last two years. Still going. No rust or oil leaks!

I will not entertain this riduclue of yours. If you are jelous of my fleet, tough, I've earned it.
Elementary, my dear Clarkson.

im jelous(sic) of your spelling prowess, not your extensive ever changing fleet of cars...which you have obviously earned....

I would advise you to look at 'English Grammar in Use', an excllent book all round.

Oh, don't be so precious. Either you actually own an enormous array of great cars, in which case you really shouldn't be all that bothered by a bit of a joshing; or you don't, in which case you're a bit of a wally.

Very comical Palmy, I see you never discolsed the price of your new S class, which you said you couldn't afford......
Elementary, my dear Clarkson.

My new S isnt brand new. Its an ex-Mercedes-Benz car. The price of it is still scaring me senseless but its alot less than a brand new one. I wouldnt bother at all given the choice but here in London it is essential for the kind of work im doing.
Wish id become a librarian instead sometimes....

Palmy, the depreciation on stuff like the big Mercedes Benz models is ridiculous. People on another forum with Mercs (the big Beemers as well) are losing a thousand pounds a WEEK in depreciation. What's the point? Madness.

All expensive cars depreciate savagely because they were expensive to start with..
However Mercedes models dont drop their value anywhere near the same as their rivals.
The only reason mine do is because of the amount of miles I cover.
But despite this, they are still worth something at the end, whereas a different make of car would be worthless.
Theyre in pristine condition but high mileage. I would strongly recommend the purchase of one of these because you'd be getting a bargain. I polish them all the time, keep the interiors spotless and have them serviced cost-no-object.
However, the purchase of any other car (A8, 7 series etc) would be futile because I would have no clients for it.
That shows the distinction between the S-class as a proper prestige car & the also-rans.

One guy lost a grand a week over the first 8 months on his Merc. No thanx. Nice cars, i know.

Thats about right, but its not as bad as its rivals.
However, if you bought that car brand new & kept it 20 years, you know for sure it would still be a very good car, and it would have represented good value.
Someone who lives round here has a beautiful 1970s 450SEL 6.9 in dark blue. Its in perfect condition and has the license plate XWX 1.
I wouldnt be surprised if it is worth the same today as it cost in the 70s, making it remarkable value.
Its 35 years old but is still a better product than most modern day cars.

How're things, Palmy? No long no talk! Hope that the fleet is all going okay, and the accident repair is still as good a job as before!
Still having consistant problems with the AX, as has been the story in the last six months. I hit one problem on the head, and then another starts. We really MUST do lunch again before Christmas time and catch up.
Hope all are well.

Don't forget it is lunch on the 27th or 28th Nov Oli! Anywhere around London fine for me.

...now thats my idea of a proper s class.....the real deal, understated, bomb proof mechanicals, engineering integrity....the old 6.3 was a favourite as is the 560 sel....but jeez, i just cant take to the new one.......these older mercs were all about restrained class......i expect to see ali g or the like getting out of the new one every time i see one...bling bling vomit....

Indeed we must! I shall see what is happening next week... That would be good. Cars are ok thank you, may be selling the E320 soon, because ive been offered an S500 LWB 54-plate with more or less every option specified (nappa leather, heated & cooled seats, reclining rear seats, Digital TV etc) at a very reasonable price. So that will take over from the E-class. sorry to hear about the reliability issues - i know how annoying that can be. Ive got the same prob with my internet broadband at the moment - and i owned a BlackBerry for 1 day last week before becoming so exasperated by it that i sent it back saying i didnt want it. They made me phone here, there & everywhere to get it set up, where the jargon and messing about was awful. I said "I just want it to work!" but they make you go from pillar to post & spout endless jargon & gobbledegook! Last thing i want is that! It seems nothing works these days, youre better off with out any of it!

...ah..you sound as gloriously technophobic as i am bro......superb...why the hell cant you take things out of the box, turn them on or plug them in, and they work.....????..technology has gone mad....

Yes it has, youre right. My next door neighbour is a very nice welsh gentleman who gave up farming & moved into the city for a different life. He drives an immaculate BMW and keeps it polished & in very nice condition.
However, he has reached the age of 59 without turning on a PC, or sending a text message. His daughters (in their late 20s) make fun of him for this.
But I think he is to be applauded. He is a very happy person, and spends his time on worth while things rather than messing about with pointless electronic devices.
WE DO NOT NEED THEM. THEY ARE POINTLESS.
When they didnt exist, which wasnt all that long ago, we all managed perfectly well. We didnt get exasperated by awful service from their manufacturers, or have our bosses/clients phoning us day & night wanting everything now.
People were far more polite.
They did what most people have forgotten to do these days.
Be patient.
This particular gentleman looks very young for his age & is always smiling. Yet i see people half his age running around London with a scowl on their face with a phone glued to their ear & furiously tapping away on their pointless blackberries. Their a bad enough encroachment on your life when they work properly, let alone when they dont and you have to be pushed one way and another by their so called "service" departments. And all for what exactly? I never want to own any electronic devices, except for my hi-fi equipment, because it generates music. But i draw the line at that. My home telephone is a 1970s one with a dial, and i love it. No memory function, no screen, nothing. But it makes & receives calls. Surely thats what a phone is for.. I gather you can get them with cameras, radios, picture messaging etc.. What possible use could all this be on a phone??
Big G, i salute you. Technology has gone mad, and the world is all the worse for it.
I know im going to get pilloried for stereotyping again, but you can also spot an I.T. to**er a mile off. Theyre a very annoying, very arrogant, very pointless breed of their own!
