None of the above. I live in Spain and the potential is not there unless you speak the language - which is the same for the other countries mentioned. Australia is the place to be if we had the qualifications to live there - we would be off like a shot. We live in Spain for half a year and spend the other half in Goa one year and Surfers Paradise in Australia for the next half year but by choice would live in Australia for ever. It is a brilliant place to live.
I read an article earlier this week which suggested that southern Cyprus is a good place to invest becuase they're joining the Euro in 2007 and mortgage rates will consequently be much lower there which will help to boost the market.
Depends what you mean by potential! i.e. as a place to live? or purely from an investment view point? For investment I fancy Turkey because they are about to get EU membership which usually means that property prices will rocket. They already have the climate and the life style that many British holiday makers desire so rental potential should be good from day one. EU membership will probably mean more cheap flights which will also help existing property owners in Turkey.
Sorry but I wouldn't choose any of the options given. If you are happy within your own head then I think you should choose somewhere that your body will be happy too.
If the flights to the place you have are close, and ryanair or easyjet fly ( cheap ). There will be someone that wants what you have. Not everyone whats the beach, some people don't want to see other brit's. Just get lost in the local people and way of life
If life is a road we take, is confusion just aroundabout ??
Only speak English ? Need a better climate ? Need very cheap property ? Expect property appreciation ? Need cheap transport ? Want to live in a Ghetto ? Pension payable in EU ? Need a beach ? Need skiing ? Need commercial facilities ? etc. etc.
English is the second language and is spoken & understood widely. Very good climate (9 months of proper sun, winter at the coldest is 16 degree celcius) Very cheap property (2 bed apartment from 35K or 3 bed large villa from 65K) Property appriciation is great, look at rental incomes of 8-10% a year and 6-7% appriciation a year. Cheap transport can be done via Larnaca through Helios, FirstChoice etc. Not sure as to what you mean by Ghetto, but if its traditional tired looking buildings with real, and i mean real charector then it has plenty of that. Pensions are payable and due to the political situation you avoid any double taxation laws in the UK :-) Loads of beachs - the Karpaz (panhandle) is one of the most untouched natural areas left in the Med, or maybe even the whole of Europe. Skiing can be done in Troodos 2 hours away or Turkey 4 hours away both very cheap Lots of commercial facilities, too many to list but they are there.
If you want to research then let me know i have lots more information
I live in Bulgaria , there is alot of potential here its cheap, we made a business with our bulgarian friends making double glazed windows and doors and we have not stopped. If you want to lead a simple lifestyle and dig the garden or whatever its the place to be.The cold winters can be offputting but they have excellant skiing.
Definately none of the above. Switzerland is where its at. Their out of the recession and returning to the mountains to rent so good opportunity for a business, property is still relatively cheap with good capital growth in a safe secure market, offer dual seasons, have great skiing, loads of daily flights to Geneva and of course the wine is fantastic.
Just bought a Chalet style apartment in Nendaz and back from choosing Kitchen etc with own personal shopper provided by the Constructor. She spoke English too so big help in talking to the local craftsmen!
Anybody wanting more info drop a thread and let me know. Happy hunting to you all.
Like TopperT, I'm a Swiss fan. If it's a holiday home you want you have to be realistic: somewhere in the middle of nowhere may be appealing, but if it takes two days to get there, and two to get back you're eating-up a big part of your hols., and long weekends are not really on. You want lots of choice of times from airlines that are in competition for passengers, not just one/day from some dodgy provincial startup. You want rock-solid land ownership laws, and a safe legal process for buying. Icing on the cake is if you can easily hire it out via a local agency and, at a minimum, cover annual costs. A couple of lifts and 10Kms of skirun isn't a resort - both for you and any clients, you need access to at least 100Kms - preferably more - of ski area. And for the summer, an area where the farmers are used to walkers and hikers and aren't going to get the shotgun out when you open their gate. It's got be be somewhere where you can go year-after-year and still find that there's plently left to explore. Frankly, for me, this was either the Colorado mountains or the Swiss Valais. And as you probably know from other threads, like TopperT, I went for the latter and haven't regretted it. Take a look at 'http://homepage.ntlworld.com/msej449/35_laforet_leaflet.html' for our experience.
I hope and think Turkey is the best place to invest. EU entry 2011 I hear, but mortgages available this year which will making purchasing property available to more potential investors. Apart from that its a beautiful country
None of the above, I've been to all of the above countries yes fair enough their nice places, but for me I wouldn't like to live in any of them. I would probably choose, Canada or America

Has to be Turkey on the west coast!! Anywhere from Kusadasi to Bodrum, its simply stunning. The prices are exceptional and the summers are very long, with a short winter and very mild weather you would be crazy to look anywhere else. I have 3 properties out here now and they have all risen well over the 18 months and the last one i brought was in Akbuk through lee at www.kariahomes.com He knows what he is talking about and has some good projects to look at, i highly reccomend him and the rest of the staff there. It was a very easy process and kept simple. So absolutley look at Turkey as its a good steady investment and superb for long term investors.
