I have the opportunity to purchase 2 plots of land on a 5 star development in North East Brazil (Nr Belmonte on the Discovery Coast). Each plot is just over 1000m2. We have the opportunity of subsequently building villas on these 2 plots (Planning permisson already granted).
Is anyone else considering investing in North East Brazil or do people think that this would be an unwise investment?
I'm not completely adverse to risk, however I would like to see some capital appreciation over the next 24 months or so.
I would really appreciate anyone's opinion on this matter

Investing in Brazil's north east has granted unbelievable profits. Try the area around Natal!
Just to let you know I did purchase an apartment in North East Brazil: Development called Lagoa do Coelho Resort. Did quite a bit of research and I am very happy with my purchase - unfortunately it won't be ready until the end of 2008 - Can't wait.
I agree that investing in the area around Natal is a great opoprtunity.
Would love to hear from anyone else who is thinking of investing in Brazil.
I'm hearing a-lot about Brazil & in particular Natal, howver am not 100% convinced as yet, are these any laws that restrict foreign buyers hen purchasing / re-selling / renting?
Also its a 9 hr flight from UK, i find that most people nowadays are looking to invest in a country which is no-longer than lets says a 4 hr flight... (however these are my views & i maybe incorrect)...
Good Luck with Brazil, keep us updated on your purchases
Hey mate, there are no restrictions for foreigners to purchase real estate in Brazil. Natal is a 7 hour flight from Lisbon, the closer spot from Europe in the Americas, not that far. Besides, they are starting to build what they claim to be one of the worlds 5 bigger airports to work as a hub for central and south america. Sounds like a place very attrctive for investors.

Salut!
Don't forget about Ceara. It has better beaches than Rio Grande del Norte. And prices are cheaper (in April 2007).

Ha, I nearly reserved one of these, but ocean front for £69000. I was a little put off by the ongoing service charge, the need to submitt annual Tax returns (even for vacant land), the fact there is a time limit within which a villa must be built and as a result the lack of liquidity - I think it would be tricky to sell - on if my circumstances changed and I ( or my dependants) needed a quick exit.
Im aware the inland plots are about £17000.
In the end I decided to invest further in Morocco as its a much more liquid, secure and close investment plus the rent is guaranteed for first 2 years.

I studied quite thoroughly the prices of land in Morocco, they are extremely high. This is why I decided to buy something in Brazil.
Hi I have purchased a plot on a development, Belmonte on the Discovery Coast, being developed by Somplace Else, I'm really pleased with it, there is alot of top end development around the resort, golf, equestrian etc. The company have been really good at keeping me informed as it won't be finished until 2008. Couldn't get a morgage on it of course so I have have to finance it from here, which ties up my capital somewhat, however I am happy that it will combine personal use with being self financing, so all in all I am very happy Wiz
