Hi, I am thinking of buying a property in the cheaper areas of France. Although I will be looking at smaller villages and towns outside the cities I really want or need to find an area that has a strong arts and cultural life, particularly classical and jazz music. Can anyone give me some pointers as to where to start looking please?

Forlands,
Re-read you last post and ask yourself if you should be considering France or anywhere other than your own doorstep.
If you don't have first hand knowledge of any particular country or district should you really be even considering the option?
In my own slightly patronizing manner I'm trying to make you go into this with a clear mind my friend.
Do not even consider parting with your hard-earned cash on a gamble and someone elses say so.
Go and find the right area yourself, see it in all seasons, do a cost gains analysis, rent there for a while before committing yourself. Once you have done this get a picture of the sort of property you want and then work out if you can afford it/finance it. Lastly start looking for a couple of local agents you feel y ou can work with.
PLEASE put the horse before the cart.
I favoured the Bordeaux/La Rochelle area for years before I was introduced to Dresden and began realizing everything I wanted was there and not in France - I did not and would not do so on the word of others. Personal research will save you making an expensive error.
