I am seriously considering renting a property for six months in the Yucatan/Quintana Roo area of Mexico, with a view to buying for retirement in due course. Has anyone had dealings with any real estate agents in those areas who they could recommend?? Thanks
VERY wise to rent for six months. It allows you not only to assess how suitable the location is for your needs (and there'll have to be comromises!) but to give yourself ample time to absorb a feel for true property prices. Make your wishes known when you're there and you will most probably find people with something to sell approaching YOU. If not, you'll have made friends with others there who will be able to give you a personal recommendation as regards realtors and lawyers. I have been studying Mexico and Costa Rica (visited) for over three years now and amassed masses of information about them. Doubtless you are already aware of the complexities of land ownership - particularly within a specified mileage from the coast? I wrote off Quintana Roo as I don't like "developments" and these are spreading like wildfire!
