I happened to watch a rerun of a place in the sun (I think) and they were looking at houses on an island somewhere, and I remember the presenter saying that it didn't get too hot in summer nor too cold in winter, it wasn't in the hurricane paths, but I have no idea where the island was (might have been part of a few islands). I think it was either a former english or dutch colony....
Anybody have any ideas at all?

By not too hot nor too cold I meant more year round t-shirt weather (or at least no coat in winter)

None whatsoever, but the Canaries would tend to fall into this category... Smile

climate certainly sounds good! though maybe a bit too dry. I like plants, though I guess it depends which island you are on...

I'm sure whatever island I'm looking for wasn't spanish though... Smile

Even the Balaeric Islands (Majorca, Minorca, etc) gets chilly in the winter. So no Tshirts all year round. At least not once you got acclimitised.

What about Aruba? Anyone remember if that's been on A Place In The Sun? Does anyone know if it is in Hurricane paths?

Where`s that? I don`t think I have a world atlas to look it up.

It`s in the Carribean.

ALL that area is in the hurricane belt.

I wonder if it was Cape Verde? I think it's about 70 in the winter and rarely above mid-80s in the summer.

I think the Isle of Mann was an excellent suggestion.

If it was a former Dutch colony, it was probably Curacao (kur-ah-saow) off the coast of Venezuala not far from Aruba. Nice choice.

What about the Azores? They are quite a bit further north than the Canaries but still very temperate.

It was a small group of islands off the Venezualan coast. I think the Dutch Antilles or Curacao you'd have to check in an Atlas.
I can understand why it would stick in your mind, the islands were beautiful the capitol city very Dutch and the properties pretty and good value. Good luck in your quest

I think Isla Margarita, Venezuela is the place you are looking for. It meets all the criteria, it is been tipped in some quarters as the next property 'hotspot', prices there are considerably less than other Caribbean islands.

Also Chavez will be happy to confiscate your property in a year or so...

Good for Hugo I say. Why should locals be forced out by parasitic rich foreigners?
