First of all:
Suziecam: If you have nothing positive to say, why even bother? Do you know about the situation in France? Do you know that you cannot get a survey as a possible buyer? Do you know that the survey is only done as an estimation of value for the seller?
I thought not! So get your stars elsewhere!
Hi Rob Roy and all house owners/estate agents in France! We fully understand your position as we ahve just bought a house in France, and would like to say that you are not alone! Though our problems are of a different nature, the law in France does not seem to help the buyer, only the seller.
We viewed our house this summer and it seemed lovely, the sun was shining, the doors were open, the power was on and seemed to work fine... birds were singing etc!
But then we came back to see it on completion and the water & electrics were turned off, the light fittings had been clipped as had all the wires around the house, the wood burner was broken, there was damp, mold, rot etc... in honesty a completely different picture to the one painted in the summer!
Now, as the law only seems to protect the seller,
we'd like to find out if anyone has any idea where to get a decent english translation of the law as it stands in France... any tips would be appreciated!
Please post your suggestions or links here as a help to future buyers!
After all, not to discourage people, we think our house will be great after an additional £10.000 of building work, but it's good to know where you stand!

Best wishes to Rob Roy and the future in their new house!
