elo could any body tell me how to go about asking channel 4 if they would like to do a disaster in the sun programme.
we bought a house in chenaud france we viewed it in febuary and bought it in august 2005 the viewing was done in france the rest was done over the internet when we viewed all looked ok as the owners had furniture in the house when we signed for the keys and moved into our dream house we noticed that there was a crack in the main wall which caused tiles in the main room to crack and caused large cracks in the corners of the house on viewing these cracks we noticed the ones inside the house had been filled in with silicon and due to the cracks the silicon had stretched the main crack on the front of the building had been cemented up to cover the crack and is noticible that all the cracks which we think had been caused by the ground moving had all been covered up we have had an architec and a building construction expert up looking at the damage and both agree it was covered up prior to us buying and also that there is asbestos in the roof and that the total cost for repairs would be about 30000 euros our notaire has wiped his hands clean of this incident as he has received his money the estate agent is trying to help by taking pictures and asking the previous owners to cough up the insurance person says this is a legal matter and not an insurance matter but she has been wonderful in helping us i would like it to go on one of those disaster in the sun programme buy dont know who to contact could anyone help

Your comment is most unhelpful

I was very sorry to hear about your house in France
Sorry I cannot offer any solutions just hope that it will be all sorted one day.
You've got to keep in there

On the contrary, it's a very helpful comment. Perhaps those buying a house in the future will read this and decide to get a survery done. As the OP should have done.

Hi

The idea of a survey, private or lenders, does not exist in France.

It is hard to find professionals who will do a survey on a private house.

Local advice is "if you are worried : get a builder or architect to check it out"

First of all: Suziecam: If you have nothing positive to say, why even bother? Do you know about the situation in France? Do you know that you cannot get a survey as a possible buyer? Do you know that the survey is only done as an estimation of value for the seller?
I thought not! So get your stars elsewhere!

Hi Rob Roy and all house owners/estate agents in France!

We fully understand your position as we ahve just bought a house in France, and would like to say that you are not alone! Though our problems are of a different nature, the law in France does not seem to help the buyer, only the seller.

We viewed our house this summer and it seemed lovely, the sun was shining, the doors were open, the power was on and seemed to work fine... birds were singing etc!
But then we came back to see it on completion and the water & electrics were turned off, the light fittings had been clipped as had all the wires around the house, the wood burner was broken, there was damp, mold, rot etc... in honesty a completely different picture to the one painted in the summer!

Now, as the law only seems to protect the seller, we'd like to find out if anyone has any idea where to get a decent english translation of the law as it stands in France... any tips would be appreciated!

Please post your suggestions or links here as a help to future buyers!

After all, not to discourage people, we think our house will be great after an additional £10.000 of building work, but it's good to know where you stand! Wink

Best wishes to Rob Roy and the future in their new house!

Hi Robroy

I'm writing a feature for a women's magazine about buying a holiday home abroad. Would you be interested in taking part? There is a small payment.
