Have just reserved off-plan in Izmir region of Turkey, and are desperately trying to find english speaking solicitors. We have been advised to use the developers recommended one but just can't get rid of the idea that you should never, never, ever do this. Has anyone found a good solicitor or know where to start looking? Does anyone trust developers recommendations and used their lawyers? We are new to all of this and would love to hear if anyone has any ideas or views.

Thanks a lot Karen
I have usually found what I'm looking for by contacting the embassy or consulate (British) locally and asking for a list of English speaking lawyers registered with them, These people are usually on the straing and level as they make a lot of business through being on those lists. Mess up and they're off the list.
You are right to be wary of the developer's legal teams. Stick to your guns. Walk away from the so-called opportunity if they start trying to put pressure on you.
There's another development just up the coast/river/road take your money there instead. Good luck
Hi Karmel, I've just bought off plan in Izmir also, and I'm thinking you might have bought on the same development by Midas plc? Anyhow, I live in ireland, and had the same problem. I found in London a Turkish solicitor based in the Turkish Legal Centre. The solicitors are all qualified in Turkey and will carry out the transaction for approximately Stg800. I found that going through the developer's recommended parties is a major rip off. The insurance policy offered by Midas plc is Stg450 per year, where again I did a google search and obtained the same policy from a company based in London for Stg111. You should definitely shop around. But you will find the details of the Turkish Legal Centre on google. They will contact the developer and have your contract sent there, and you will have to sign over a power of attorney, but I think that's normal. Hope this helps.
Hello I am new to forums. We are in the processss of buying a villa near Izmir on the peninsula village site by Midas and are looking for advice/suggestions about furnishing hard and soft. Would like some ideas about whether to bring sheets towels etc from UK?

Could you please let me have the name and contact details of the solicitor that you used.
