how long do you plan living in this tent ? I assume its quite large. say 15 pounds a day for the pitch would be 5,475 pounds per year. after 10 years call it 54,000 pounds plus it may be a bit cold in the winter with the toilet/shower block closed from september to april. Ithink for this money you can get an nice apartment in any number of places or an old country house somewhere giving you a more comfortable life and perhaps an investment too. keep the tent and use it for those holidays in england if you like just to remind you how expensive, cold, wet and miserable this green and pleasant land is.
Well, I said that and then moved overseas for relationship reasons.
A lot of places have a lot to offer and the key is to make the most of those (rather than hankering back to what you are missing out on in the UK).
jimandpaul - take the general point but remember that England offers things that many countries do not. The flip-side of "expensive" is virtual full employment, say. A wide choice of jobs is not a luxury on offer in most European countries.

Even if you do have full employment, you have to work your socks off and all the hours God sends just to break even a lot of the time. No siree I don't want to end my days here!
that tent idea is just so good, think of all that council tax you'll save and you can choose from no end of minimum wage jobs in the "land of full employment" and still have something left over at the end of the month. send us all a postcard when you get there
