Hi Lee

I looked into this, but from the research I have done it seems that it is extremely difficult for foreigners to own property in India. It seems that you have to live out there for 182 days continously in order to be considered a resident. Then you can buy property.

But even if you manage to buy property you cannot take out any of the profits out of India.

So I dont think its a wise investment overall. Check out www.indiamike.com for more advice.

There ARE ways to get the money out of India, just slightly more complicated than the way you expect to, but its definately possible.

Im not sure of the foreigner aspect sorry as I am british but of Indian origin.

Apart from that, Goa is beautiful and any property there will appreciate well - same as alot of other areas in India.

Hi
We are making plans tomove to india - either goa or kerala. it is not difficult to buy as w have friends who own property over there. the important thing is to get a good lawyer. there is a residency requirement but you can get around this. it is important to go out there to view all the options. don't whatever you do buy any property linked to time share, holiday lets, or custom developments as you will pay through the nose. examples of friends property are: two bed penthouse (Just completed) £11,000
>> two bed semi villa £25000 brand new. a good site to gotois www.realkerala.com which is an estate agent site and will give you some ideas of prices. best idea is to buy land and have house built. we saw one last year ex pat brit built. detached 4 bed 2 bath detached villa with swimming pool at £45,000. best of luck. its a great place to be

Instant Graemlins It is very easy to buy property in Goa. We just come back from there and met few English people who have bought their holiday homes in Goa. Only thing you have to do is to form a company and then you can take out your money ,if needed, out of India legally. But my opinion is go there first and stay for 3-4 weeks. Rent a villa and study the market. I find home4less very useful site. I have been to Kerela and Goa but I loved Goa as weather is not very hot stays around 33c and one can get cheap flights from U.K.. Beaches are beautiful. Kusum

hey robindog,
do you know if palolem in goa is still cheap? We have been there quite a few times and now have decided to buy. The residency thing (182days)worries us though, because tourist visa is only 180days! Is your friends who own property there, western? if so how did they get around this?
If you get a good lawyer could you pass on his details? thanx Angel
