Great spot by somebody on the forum about the significance of the rose in last night's episode. I just saw it as a rose, significant to the story yes, but not significant as in possibly being the inspiration behind Rose's naming - very clever!

Another thing - unless the scriptwriters made a big mistake - Larkin let the cat out of the bag as to Russel possibly not being Rose's father.

Talking with Mariel just before her broadcast Larkin tells Mariel that while going through the video footage, she saw Mariel and Tom there at the hospital 9 years ago. She tells Mariel that she didn’t realize that the two of them went so far back. She asks Mariel “you were 'still' married to Russell then, weren’t you?” Mariel says yes she was.

Larkin's question gives the impression that Mariel and Russell were separted BEFORE Rose was conceived/born.

Also, rememember Rose was the first to notice that her mother was 'different'- probably because Rose is a hybrid and knows her own kind.

Also Tom had a word with Rose, just like he did with other hybrids when she started asking to many questions. Ever since Rose has been 'on board'.

So Tom just has to be the dad.

that was me! i spotted the Rose thing almost straight away. Just cant decide whether its because Tom's father or she just used the name in memory almost. If you look at the age difference between Jesse and Rose theres a gap of about 10 years and last night we found out that Tom and Mariel have known each other about 10 years since the crash!

Also the actresses they used for Kira and Rose last night looked so alike.

Im convinced that Tom is Rose's father!

yeah I noticed that Rose and and the young Kira looked alike, so never caught on about rose possibly being toms daughter.

Don't think anyone is in a rush to claim fatherhood of the son though do you?

i'm convinced now that rose doesn't have the same parents as jesse, but i'm still confused. i have no idea how long russell and larkin have been an item. it's quite possible that either russell or mariel could have had rose from an altogether different relationship - not likely i know, but again i believe that larkin 'knows' that rose isn't the daughter of both mariel and russell (probably mariel, maybe russell, but not both). also after tom has his little chat with rose, rose refers to him as 'daddy tom', something i don't think she had before. larkin picks up on this straight away - i thought it was just her being jealous/irritated about mariel/tom seeing more of the kids and stuff, but her look was probably because she knew something.

my view on rose has totally changed - i originally thought she was 100% human, and that, along with her child's 'intuition' led her to notice the change in mariel, but now the hybrid theory makes more sense.

one last thing - the blood transfusion- mariel gave tom her blood, yet i'm sure they're not the same group. therefore the alien blood is predominant and the human blood group is irrelevant - which of course makes tom and mariel aliens/hybrids of the same type

Rose has called Tom "daddy Tom" (which sounds adorable) from the beginning. She looks more like Russell than anyone else. The time line is weird but I'm not convinced Tom is Rose's dad because I don't think humans can conceive with hybrids. Tom told Mariel that he didn't want children but once she had been invaded he was keen to have kids with her. I'll probably be proved to be way wrong!

Did you not watch last night's e4 episode? it clearly hints towards Tom being Rose is father and the relevance of the name Rose.

I did watch E4 last night Lea and I've seen this theory brought up on the American boards but I'm still not convinced somehow. I think this show throws up a lot of red herrings!

yea totally true. could be just to confuse us even more. this show is good at that.

I think Mariel had an affiar with Tom whilst with Russell had Rose then left Russell for Tom and now shes been found out when Larkin saw the tape.

So you think Tom is Rose's dad? I remember Jesse told Mariel that he saw her kissing Tom soon after Rose was born but who knows? Then again, once Mariel married Tom why would she keep it secret if Tom was the real dad? Russell wouldn't be able to claim custody of her then. Maybe Mariel doesn't know herself. I'm getting a headache now

Tom told Mariel to pass him a rose from the vase at the end of his hospital bed. he kept it an asked her to collect him a box from his 'cupboard' and when he told her to open it in the hospital room so she it was the rose he gave her from before.

Now either she remembered and just liked the name Rose or she named her that because it Tom's daughter!

it would have been shown this wednesday just gone and on tomorrow on channel four.

Should have defiitely had a spoiler warning on this one
