This is the random observation I was talking about in another thread here...it probably has no relevance whatosever, but I thought I'd put it up anyway...at the very least its an Invasion discussion rather than a thread about comparisons to Lost!
Cast your minds back to the first episode, specifically the scence with Rose and Mariel in Rose's bedroom ('Mommy you smell different').
To the left of Rose's bed you can see what looks like a firefly mobile decoration, with each insect possessing an orange light that looks very similar to the orange lights that fell from the sky and into the water.
Maybe this has no great significance at all, and is just symbolic of the fact that Rose saw the lights in the first place.
But perhaps its an indicator that she will have a greater involvement with the lights/aliens in future.
I had a quick read about fireflies, and it says that they are mainly to be found around water, so this could be another nod to the lights/aliens themselves being involved in the water.
The bioluminescence that fireflies produce is generally regarded as a warning signal to predators, that communicates to them that they taste bad because of the chemicals in their bodies.
Perhaps the aliens (assuming that they are indeed the lights) are using their glow to communicate with each other, and possibly humans on the ground that they are working with...such as Tom the Sheriff, especially since he said that he's seen the lights as well.
I've only watched the first two episodes, so I don't know if this has any relevance to the third...indeed if it has any relevance full stop! lol
