I seriously don't know what to think anymore. Both major sides of the Justin/Becca saga put across valid points. Yes I agree that what Becca is doing is wrong. She is an adult who is in a position of power, responsibility and trust. As a teacher she completely abused this position the moment she got intimately involved with Justin. Aside from breaking the law regarding teacher/pupil relationships, she also commited adultery, a serious offence which could give Jake the upper hand on possible divorce proceedings (Yes, I'm aware Jake had an affair with Lisa last year. A few minor differences - Lisa was an adult as she was 19, Jake wasn't her teacher, Jake broke off the affair and admitted his wrongdoing to Becca. Jake didn't carry on the affair for months on end, getting Lisa's hopes up then stamping on them time and time again. He made a mistake, he paid his dues, and Becca forgave him). If what Becca is doing is part revenge, she doesn't have a leg to stand on. By marrying Jake she forgave all his sins and promised to love him for the rest of her life. Those aren't the kind of vows that should be taken with a pinch of salt. It was obvious Becca wasn't ready for marriage, she should never have agreed to it. All this aside, Becca has been messing with a young boy's emotions for almost a year now, long before she even got sexually involved with Justin. She underestimated his naivety. By paying Justin extra attention, visiting him out of school, those stolen glances from across the classroom, promising she'd always be there for him, she was in a way manipulating his emotions, however unintended that may have been. I think Becca should be punished for what she's done... HOWEVER Would Becca have carried on the affair this long if she thought she wasn't going to gain something from it? Unless she was completely infatuated by Justin, I can't see her putting her career or marriage on the line for a schoolboy. There must've been some feeling there. Sexual desire to begin with I would've thought. Becca had created a fairytale image of what marriage would be like, and when it didn't match her expectations, she went looking elsewhere for a bit of excitement. And it doesn't get more taboo than a female teacher sleeping with her male pupil. The knowledge that what Becca was doing was wrong must've spurred her on to some degree. And consequently along the way she found herself falling for Justin. If it IS love (don't knock the idea, it could still happen), shouldn't we be true to our feelings? Becca's already deceived Jake into thinking she loved him and wanted his child enough, it'd be kinder to admit that she strayed because she wasn't in love with him than to cover up the truth with 'it was a stupid mistake' story. Plus a baby has now been thrown into the equation. Becca doesn't know who the father is, she owes it to both Justin AND Jake to have a paternity test after it's born. By turning both their lives upside down and managing to p!$s everything up royally, it's the least she can do. So yeah, I just don't know which argument I agree with. So I'll just say I'm stupid and don't have an opinion.
