I cannot believe (on Weds e4), that four days after a baby's funeral they're writing an episode where an obituary is faked and everyone finds it hilarious. To joke about death inside the following week is sick, disturbing and UNfunny, if Joe's stupid enough to get into debt he should face the music, the writers have gone way too far... ok the students don't know about Grace's death but the writers do and it's the most horrible insensitive thing I've ever seen. People who have lost babies in real life used it probably as a way to deal with it, and I'm guessing watched it tentatively as it's still a hard subject to watch. To then trivialise death in such a flippant easy way is morally repugnant...

I agree, faking Joe's death due to debt is a horrible thing to do so soon after baby Grace's death, the height of bad taste. It's Joe's fault he's in debt, it isn't Grace's or anyone else's fault that she died of cot death.
The students MUST know about Grace's death - Jessica and Olivia work at Il Gnosh.
It is pretty sick. But I have to say I was more disgusted by Clare & Max whooping and giggling through the churchyard after getting engaged. Okay, so most of the mourners had gone home, but please. There's a time and a place.

I don't see a problem. Life goes on. When babies die in real life at the same time sombodys watching there favourite comedy show a few blocks away. It's life it doesn't stop if you, me or anyone else dies.
when tragedy strikes one of the most confusing things to those involved is the way everyone's life just goes on - but it does. Death is part of life and its the one thing we all have in common! I don't think its particularly bad taste for Joe and friends to be planning a mock funeral - making fun of death is one way people cope with it
To be honest I didn't make the connection before but now that you say it, yeah it is pretty disgusting.
I can't believe that Jez would even say that his friend was dead even if it could get out him out of trouble, I mean it's like be careful what you wish for and all that.
I hadn't made this connection. Upon thinking about it it's perhaps in bad taste but at the time I thought it was funny as a way of getting someone out of a hole by pretending to bury them in one!
I agree i felt it was i very bad taste so soon after grace. But then again when have soap writers ever cared about whether something is in good taste or not
If it wasn't for physics and law enforcement, i'd be unstoppable.

And also when you're young like Jez and Joe death seems a very long way off.

The writers of Hollyoaks are attempting to reflect real life. If you were a student and you had heard vaguely about some baby's death a week before but you were forced to fake your own death to ward off a loan shark I don't think you would even make the connection in your brain. Hollyoaks has a long history of putting humorous and light - hearted storylines at the same time as tragic ones; remember the episode with Allie's death? Danni and co. were trying to persuade Cameron to take them to the V. festival by offering him chocolate biscuits. I repeat, it is a soap and attempts to reflect real life.
