I'm furious!!!
I just hope that what I'm going to say isn't true but at this precise moment, who really knows.
Supposedly in week 21 - have no idea when as person on ds didn't say - but JP tells Mercy that being with Priesty is different and/or that he loves K far more than he ever loved Craig.
Is this true or a whole load of bumpkin!
But in what context is JP saying this? Suppose Mercy is goading him, saying that being with a priest will never last etc just like you thought your relationship with Craig would last but didn't. Then JP's supposed comments would be like an angry retort, as JP continues to try and move on from Craig and convince himself that he was right to walk away at the airport and that priesty is the one for him because he's over Craig. We could probably make up a whole range of scenarios at this moment in time, but truth is we just don't know atm. Weren't there lots of misleading spoilers floating about during McDean? I'm not going to take spoilers too seriously and will wait to see what happens on screen. I still think that what JP said to Hannah stands. So chill! *throws water over romcom and runs away befor she retaliates*
*takes a deep breath in order to compose self* I hope you're right Ali because if not the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.

My theory is the only way I can make sense of everything that's happened so far - all the mirroring, references etc. Everything happens for a reason in soaps - they're just too short for irrelevancies. We've really got to look at the BIG, BIG picture with this sl - right back to the start of McDean to pick up on all the clues and subtleties. For example with JP now doing the Craig mirroring - Craig discussed things with Kris pre dance-off, didn't he, just as JP is doing now - neither admitting their true feelings in their 'Kris-discussions' - more showing denial. Also, I think that if we were supposed to see McPriest as 'the happy couple', we'd have gotten a back story to priesty, to make him more sympathetic to viewers - they could have spun us a real sob story, but didn't. So Kieron is like Sarah then? I do agree with you about McPriest. It feels too rushed for it to actually be taken seriously.

Well with Craig, he was in love with JP and it was JP that he actually wanted, yet was trying to convince himself that he could be happy with Sarah. As things progressed with Sarah, he realised more and more that he wanted to be with JP. Craig initially thought that man + woman = happiness, the way things should be. With JP, he's still in love with Craig, and yet is trying to convince himself - or at least will be very soon - that he's in love with and can be happy with priesty. JP thinks that gay man + gay man = happiness, the way things should be in his head ... for now ... So yes, I think the two situations are very similar. We've often wondered on here what the audience was meant to make of McPriest. I mean, this priest implausibly takes up residence in one of the most crowded houses in Hollyoaks (lol), spends very little time on priestly duties, drinks a lot, gets with JP (who's still a teenager). And the story jumps from one thing to another - one minute priesty is upholding vows, the next he's like 'vows, what vows, kiss me quick lol', then he's christening a non-catholic child, brief moment of 'ooh vows!' then back to JP - even JP admits they hardly know each other. So this silly story has gotten off to a very poor start indeed - and it could have been done a million times better - so why wasn't it??? Why such a poor start? Why no back story to priesty? I think McPriest was meant to serve two purposes - get JP into a situation which will form part of Niall's revenge, and also get JP to confront his feelings for Craig. Maybe the lack of priesty information means that when McPriest ends, viewers are supposed to be focussing more on JP and the consequences for him? Surely if we were supposed to be taking this sl more seriously, there'd have been more of priesty debating his vows etc. It seems like events were just being pushed along to get JP to a certain place. Well sad Ali. When you say things like that it convinces me that there is a point to it all. However, when I watch the episodes all that goes out the window.

Thanks hun. Just try not to take the episodes or spoilers at face value - keep looking at the big picture and ask yourself what really makes sense of everything - and don't forget the JP/Hannah chat! I'm sure there'll be plenty of cringe-worthy McPriest episodes to come, but I really think they'll just be showing JP's confusion. And remember just how far things went with Craig's confusion - he actually proposed to Sarah, but was redeemed completely in his last week! I imagine there'll be a few hidden nods and winks as to what's really going on - but I think we need to look a bit deeper for those. One more sensible thought then, to prepare you for the week - remember the doom and gloom music that was playing when JP and priesty first got together? In fact, the whole episode was full of doom and gloom sl's. Another example of us being 'shown' things rather than 'told' them directly in this sl. so tell me i know your a James fan so what do you make of Mcdean story and John Paul charecter progression todate? lol
Ok, I was a big fan of McDean at the time. I thought James and Guy were excellent in their roles throughout and conveyed all of the confusion, angst and emotion of two boys who ultimately fall in love perfectly. However as I'm primarily a John Paul fan, I'm more interested in seeing how his life will unfold now. I'm trying to do this objectively rather than just see JP as part of a McDean continuation. Sorry, i don't mean that to sound rude in any way. It's just the way I feel. I think his relationship with Kieron is ill advised and fraught with danger, but then as they say, you can't help who you fall in love with - or to keep the McDeaners happy, you can't help who you think you fall in love with. One things for sure, all hell's going to break loose once the affair becomes public knowledge, so there's no doubt that major wobbly-chin times are ahead for JP. At this moment in time, I'm not really sure that Craig coming back into JP's life would be the best thing either. When they broke-up, they were both at very different emotional and psychological stages of their lives and I'm in no doubt that if they had both left together for Craig's hovel in Dublin, they would have split up by now anyway. Much of their past relationship was based on passion and raging hormones and very little on loving discernment, devotion or empathy; which is why I've always had a problem with the way they are so readilly labeled as soulmates. Don't get me wrong, I definitely want JP to have a happy ending when it's time for him to leave. I just haven't read enough McDean fan fiction yet to have been brainwashed into believing the SE with Craig is the right way to go about it.
Hi Bailey Brat how was your bank holiday? Re your post I really do get where your comming from and as you already know I am a James fan (great actor and cute to lol) but i am also a Guy Burnet Fan *because am more in to the James Dean brooding type plus more importantly i saw Guy acting develop ten folds in HO from the cheeky chappy who was there cause he looked like Jake (Kevin Sacre) to a wonderful actor* Like you i loved the boys story you see my problem is not the fan fiction it was when the story finished. I was like oh so much unanswerd so much unresolved, the boys just running away from each other. I was like truthfully is this how its going to end!!! you go through so much heart ache (take us on a journey) and then you just both walk away.... (ok Guy was leaving but well i cant be upset with Guy now can i lol, have you seen his pictures at the BSA his one hot actor) So Sunset ending aside.. because well where not really entitled to one but yes it would be nice.. cause am a first love romantic and all that.. but well its not the be end and end all of life (BK not saying here i dont want one just that am not slitting my wrist if i dont get it lol) So setting that a side and looking at James and John Paul (because well am following both James and Guys careers) So why put John Paul into another relationship why not let him shine another way.. why make his character one dimentional.. and totally about his sexuality.. surely as Brians baby there is more for James then that... I like Jake Hendriks i like the idea of exploring religion... but why then havn't we been giving the back ground information to buy into the story. Why do we have John Paul playing out just another falling in love story with some one he just cant have.. Yes the fall out will be amazing but why does his happy ever after have to come from one relationship into another with a priest ... thats what i struggle with.. Am not anti Priest and JP.. because i really do like Father Keiron.. his a nice guy but surely the story is more then just another love story with religious repercussion.. I want more for James then this.... (which does sound rather contradictory of me when i want SE, but for me SE, is just a perfect "end to a story i have really enjoyed" after James has had another amazing story. but for that story to be another secret relationship story and with John Paul character going against everything he said he wouldnt with Craig.. to me shows no character development, nothing different for John Paul to move on and this is when i think what why .. what does this give James.. personally i would have like John Paul dynamics with his family being explored even his dad.. but what do we have more secret affairs, love and sex with a priest whose nice but for whom we have no real background story.. its not that i dont want to buy the story, i really do.. But I guess the reality is that this is just a soap.. and maybe we have idealised the program into something more..... and i think thats the problem..... it light entertainment and does Father Keiron need a back ground story, does the story line need substance... maybe not, thats no critisism on anyones part, but maybe with the brilliance that was Mcdean and Hannah Anorexia.. i have just grown to expect to much from Hollyoaks as i thought it could deliver and maybe will still deliver what do you think.. am i making any sence? lol you always seem to do the other side of the opinion so well

Without a background story though, you have to admit that priesty appears rather plot device like? If they'd wanted to really convince us to take him seriously, surely they'd have given him more of a history. He's virtually a new-born lol! Am going to wait till June and July before and i would have agreed with you. After the Hannah and JP talk i would agree with you and yes i believe something will happen.. not quiet sure what, my biggest critisism is that if the Keiron storyline is meant to be the love of JP life then a better written back story would have helped. still keeping the faith at the moment but the actual evidence compared to the subtext is getting way to deep for me and a soap lol

Now lea throttling even fictional characters is not nice lol no matter how annoying a story gets lol I believe they are but to be honest i have decided to stay away from spoilors as they cause way to much conflict... but am sure over on DS they would know.

Again I'm loving your sensible talking both of you. I agree that if it was meant to be a great love story then we would have been given more. More backstory, more angst, more more more. But we haven't. It's not like they don't have the capabilities of doing a great love story. Maybe it's just that they don't want to at the moment. Because Kieron is for a different purpose.

Just wanted to post this as I think it speaks volumes by someone on ds: nothing, in any of the spoilers I've read, has caused me to think JP's characterization is anything but true to form. Considering the place he's at mentally, it's distinctly JP of yore, in fact. I think where JP's at mentally and emotionally right now is very much where he was at post-Fight leading up to McDean Day. JP has quite clearly designated Craig as someone he "can't have" much like he did back then when he went forward with Spike. But, once JP was taken out of that mindset BY Craig, there was no one else BUT Craig, as we saw when Spike approached JP for "a bit of no strings fun". So I can totally buy JP telling Kieron he loves him while at the same time not buy into JP telling Kieron he loves him. If that makes sense. JP's in a place that, I feel, the only thing that can reach him at this point is Craig. I think once Craig utters Kieron's famously creepy line "I didn't say you couldn't have me" realization will fall on JP's head like a house, much like the Wicked Witch of the East, though I'm sure the only thing that will die are his feelings for Kieron.
