Just found two posts on ds about JP and the reasons why he left Craig at the airport. They give us something different to think about - what are your views?
See, I always kind of thought not wanting to be a secret was John Paul's excuse and not necessarily what he really felt. He was willing to be a secret for ages. The time he almost outed Craig (the letter) and when he actually did out him (the text) were times when John Paul thought he'd lost Craig to Sarah (running off to Zante and the proposal) and acted out of anger. I actually could see John Paul being willing to keep his relationship with Craig a secret if he had him all to himself (but he never did as Craig kept running back to Sarah). At the airport, JP's freakout came when Craig said he wasn't gay. John Paul figured he'd lose Craig to a woman down the road anyway, so JP figured best to end it now, than later when it would hurt that much more (as to whether Craig would have actually done that, I personally don't think so, but I can see the mind of an insecure 18 year old working that way).
AndActually - just to be pedantic on the subject of love and not forgetting he said 'I love you Craig, with all my heart..... And I'll never, ever forget you. But however much I love you, I know I deserve more.."
Which is even worse when you consider he said he deserved more. He's obviously changed his mind cos he clearly thinks he deserves less as he's about to be even more secret with a priest! ... or it was just a good act as an excuse not to go with him.
And of course, how ironic. When Frankie told Craig to get away from HO (and away from JP) and make a fresh start, he replied that it would make no difference if he did go away .. "I'll still love John Paul"
Ironic cos the tone of the christmas text suggests he still does.
