I've come to the conclusion that Hollyoaks contains far too many characters. We don't see some for weeks until their "turn" comes round again and they are THE characters for the entire week. Thereafter they disappear once more. Look at Jake and Nancy, Jack, Craig and Mrs Osborne - it's been ages since they last appeared. Steph Dean has only just reappeared after weeks being almost completely invisible. My suggestion: cut down the number of characters and make their story lines interweave much more. Otherwise there is the danger that Holloyoaks will become more and more just a set of disjunct minisoaps, with no thread between them.
They are getting rid of a bunch of them though, I am here thinking why make a new title with all these character then kill them off or just make then go away, we have to bare with seeing them just on the titles for another 10 months or something lol
We're gonna party like its 1699

Im the first to start a hate campaign about the overuse of the McQueens but Im afraid this time, I must disagree.
Hollyoaks range of characters keeps the show providing for different audiences as Ive noticed different characters tend to have different types of storylines. E.g. OB, Max, Josh, Fletch, Steph, Darren and some of the McQueens will get the comedy storylines whereas the Ashworths, Valentines, Loft staff get the more dramatic storylines. This isnt always the case, but generally speaking, the storyline genres differ greatly.
I do agree that the storylines need to interweave more to make the characters interact with one another more instead of with their family. Have you noticed most characters will only have 2/3 close friends in Hollyoaks? Sarah; Hannah, Craig, Nancy, John-Paul. 4 friends in a village? Really?
With more characters, Hollyoaks can deal with a number of issues at once, whilst providing a break from certain characters if the audience are beginning to bore of them (SUCH AS THE MCQUEENS- Ok...and breathe...)
i kinda agree but i grew up in a fairly small village, similar to hollyoaks and i had a lot of friends at school but in the actual village i lived in i only had 3-4 close friends that i spent a huge amount of time with, my other friends lived in the surrounding villages so in that respect i suppose it is fairly realistic
