it just seems none of them are ever happy, their either taking drugs, are anorexic or sleeping around. I just dont think its a fair portrait to paint to teens, some do it sure, but not everyone of us. Also every character is skinny, able bodied and beautiful. maybe its that theres no room for overweight, disabled people in the beautiful peoples soap.
the show tries to have storylines which expresses certain problems that afflict the youth of today, by showing these storylines it is possibly the hope to help teens have a greater understanding of the dangers the certain things pose, eg anorexia-death herion=getting addicted=overdosing, the show does not give a bad rep for us teens it merely is trying to suide us to avoiding these bad things in my opinion.

Good point, and as the government seems to be going on about the overweight people infesting Britain, perhaps they should show the affects over over-eating in contrast to Hannah's anorexia/bulimia. A charachter could die from obesity caused problems. I never really thought about their absence before.

Well, they can't really write happy stories that are going to interest people as much as miserable ones do, but yes, it does make out that Teens are forever miserable.
As for making out that everyone is beautiful and able bodied, that's one I think 100% hate about the show. I enjoy watching it and the stories, but things like the ridiculous credit sequences really do damage the show because it focuses on vanity and makes out like being gorgeous is a massive factor, the show hardly gives something for less 'beautiful' people to relate too (and I'm no model!).
I think Hollyoaks would be a better and more respectable show if they stopped all those silly 'hunk' Calenders and Vain Credit Sequences and tried to look more like a normal place with a fair mix rather than just a bunch of attractive young people with a few token adults to fill it out.
Tbh no one would watch it if it was happy all the time.
And most of the viewers who watch it, want to see beautiful young people, I hate to say it but thats what the public likes. I personally wouldn't mind if they were all ugly.
I remember when Chloe was in it, and she wasn't thin, and she was my favorite character. And I was only little when she was on it, and I remember her very clearly.
Also, the show is aimed at 14/15 and above, so why shouldn't they watch it?

I dont think its really that negative, its just reflecting whats going on all over the country it just happens to be set in a small village. There has probably been some characters in the past that were relatively happy on the show, like zara and lee, i cant remember them having tonnes of problems. Tbh i think id probably get bored if everyone was happy all the time, i like angst!
