Last week in the show, Summer Shaw won her dream role as Maria in The Sound Of Music. Summer Strallen, the actor who plays her also revealed last week that she will be leaving the show to take on the role as Maria.
What do you think of this storyline and how it has mixed fiction with reality? Are you enjoying it?
I've loved it! I think Summer is a fantastic actress and singer and I can't wait to go and see her in The Sound of Music!! It was also great seeing Andrew Lloyd Webber acting in Hollyoaks. I really enjoyed the scenes in London with Summer and OB and I'm sad to see them go

It's been fantastic, very different and I've really enjoyed watching it and I will miss Summer when she leaves the show!

I'm afraid I feel the Hollyoaks audience has been used so ALW can get more bottoms on seats. As I said in Friday's thread, it was always at the back of my mind that Summer had to be a plant or pursuing some agenda because an actress of her calibre simply wouldn't (normally) associate with Hollyoaks under normal circumstances. And we were proved right.
Summer Strallen is an amazing actress with a voice to match. I will actually miss her in spite of my above comments. But I suppose we were all taken in to some degree because they way she interacted with the existing cast and didn't take herself too seriously made us think she was in Hollyoaks because she wanted to be and not why, ultimately, she was.
I have to admire Lime Pictures for their audacity and I'm all for anything which introduces Hollyoaks fans to the arts. Unfortunately there's a slight bitter taste in my mouth regarding how exactly this was done.
I really enjoyed it. It's created a great exit for them both and they could still return too! I think it was worked in well and it's been one of the happiest and romantic storyline I've seen umm...this year!

I liked the romance side of it, and the fact that OB was leaving on a happy story line. However i feel i was watching an advert to get people to go an see TSOM . It makes me sad that hollyoaks has put the integraty of the show up for sale, and it has undone alot of the hard work it has done to improve it's image. That said she has a stunning voice and i liked the chareter. I just hope this stunt won't be repeated- it's supposed to a soap not an advert for other people's shows.

I agree completely I felt that we had been cheated as views and also some other aspiring actress could have played the part just as well. This would give them the exposure Summer already had as a stage star.

I really liked this story line. I didn't like Summer when she first came into the show and liked her even less when I found out she was taking over Connie as I love Sound of Music and think Connie makes the perfect Maria.
HOWEVER, since watching summer in this storyline, I've really warmed to her and loved watching her character chase (and finally get) her dreams!! I hope we get to see more of rehersing and all that now, a side of theatre most of us wouldn't get to see. And I hope Summer/Hollyoaks fans go and see her perform and love her as much as Connie fans love Connie!!

I'm sorry but I agree with whoever above said it was a cheap attempt at advertising and the storyline is completely far-fetched stalking ALW wont get you a part in a top musical + though im sure it's done the musical favours i think it was all a bit clumsy

you dont know andrew lloyd webber. some of us who work in the theatre industry had heard things, especially concidering summers history in theatre and how much connie fisher had been stuggling with her voice, also summer wanted to boost her tv profile up. and if you talking about cheap shot at advertisng is it any wonder when ALW is using reality tv shows to get actors, most of these people have never stepped foot in a drama school or anything like that, they are taking jobs from the people who have just come out of drama school after years of hard work, connie had never done any stage work before maria, although i know lee mead did as i worked with him on a show, and he deserves the fame he's got he's so talanted and hard working. ALW really infuriates me.

Connie HAD trained. She attended Mountview academy and has done stage and TV work before. Ok so she got her first major role in Maria but she had worked before. Just beacause of the way she got her part through a reality show people think that she is some untalented person who was just lucky.
She is brilliant in SOM, I'm not saying Summer won't be but just that Connie wasn't just lucky, she has worked hard to get where she is, it just hasn't been publically done. She may have had problems with her voice when she was doing the eoght shows a week, but that's not why she's leaving, she's been Maria for a year and a half, she's touring in May/June and she is preparing to film a TV show. So it's about time she handed the part to someone else!!!
Summer will be a good Maria and I'm even thinking of going to see her before the show ends in October.
You can have all the years training that you like but that won't make you any better than anyone else who just happens to have natural talent. Some people have to work their socks out and learn how to act, sing and dance. Others don't. Such is life.
Anyone winning a place through reality TV, well good luck to them. They are not 'nicking' jobs from anyone else who deserves them better - they are only doing that if once in the role they prove to be unsuitable or just plain bad at it.
I thought it was a good storyline but didn't warm to her character anyway. Clever thing to do and in no way was it cheating viewers in my opinion. Some people take things far too seriously!
