When Mercedes was trying to explain how she got pregnant tonight she said she had a drunken bunk-up and that it was a dark night, and she couldn't remember the guy's hair colour let alone his name. This was, of course, a lie designed for her family not to realise it was Tony. But is this a good thing for young and mid teen viewers to hear? To hear that it's ok for people who are sexually active to get it on with someone they don't know, no protection or anything, and that is ok?

I think this sends out the wrong message to young viewers who are not sexually active yet, or have just started, because not only can it mean unwanted pregnancies, but also sexually transmitted infections, AIDS and so on. Very irresponsible on behalf of the programme makers I think. I think this is a case of the show caring more about developing a story than they do about the moral responsibility they have to the younger viewers. What to other people think?

She had to think about what she had to say on the top of her head, she would have said anything.

If younger viewers were listening then they wouldnt take any of it on I dont think so anyway as at the end of the day it is a soap and they watch it to escape from real life.

Plus writers have touched on what happens in those situations before havent they and people who remember those sort of things know nothing good will come of having unprotected liasions

They are also showing her getting drunk all the time, which I don't think is a good move as getting drunk while pregnant isn't a good move, whether you want to keep the baby or not.

like preeminent i don't think any young people will take what merce said on board; yes it was irresponsible of her but i don't think people will think it's ok just to have sex without contraception with whoever,it's stressed enough how much lad's should wrap it and such.
i think merce just did what any other person in her situation would do,they'd lie,she has to,she had no choice...if that was me,i'd do the same,and i think most other people would do to.

i swear mercedes was on the pill becus if u remember wen amy had just got pregnant she took a load didnt she off mercedes bed, and we never heard or saw tha she had stopped taking it, and to be honest, if she had stopped taking it then surely she wud use some other form of contraception, i understand she was drunk, but she really is the worst mcqueen!

As we discovered tonight though, Merecedes aint going ahead with the pregnancy. I thought the possibility of having Jacqui (adopted mum) and Tony (adopted dad, and real dad!) bringing the child up, just like Jacqui proposed they would, would be one which the writers would go for. Then they could have filled up many episodes with 'auntie' Mercedes developing a longing to have her baby back, Jacqui saying "no it's mine!" etc and a squabble taking place. But, as we saw tonight, nothing like that will be happening because Merecedes made a trip to the clinic!

yeah but what you hae to remember the pill isn't 100% effective,that's why it's advised to go double dutch if you get me.

hmmm i didn't actually think that!and you're right,it would have made a way better storyline than the one HO have chosen to go down.

i think that tony n mercedes should have told jacqui then discussed with her if she still wanted the baby not lie to her and have an abortion x

would be nice to see some good role models in hollyoaks as most of the viewers are young teens
