After the shock of hearing Guy was leaving I was at least looking forward to three more months of him in Holloaks but having seen the spoilers now up to 9th July and the lack of Guy and James screen time again it does feel that while they got Guy to agree to three extra months - its not necessairly 3 months of actual filming.

Its beginning to feel like 3 months for them to drip feed out a small number of additional scenes to finish the story. I had hoped the story would have been fleshed out more but at this rate all we'll get is:

1. A scene or two in July - Sarah finds JP and Craig together. She storms off and sleeps with Rhys without telling him why. Rhys crows about it to Craig.

2. August - a few scenes of angsty Craig gutted about Sarah and worried she'll reveal all. He takes it out on JP who has enough and dumps him. Runs back to Spike.

3. September - scenes of Craig in turmoil observing JP and Spike happy together and Sarah with Rhys. Sarah lets slip to Rhys about Craig/Jp and all hell breaks loose. Shots of Craig unable to face anyone.

Exams results - final nail - he does badly and leaves to be with sister in London Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If its as predictable as it seems to be going then Guy might as well have left when he wanted to. He could have slept with JP once and then run off. Unless they surprise us (and the signs arent good) then I dont see the benefit of the story being extended. Its not like he's actually on screen much!!!! It just seems to be the promise that he might be on half the time. Crafty Producers.

Anyone feel cheated. I do. Its like those PR bed shots.

I think the producers have been very crafty. They've advertised the story extension and stressed 3 months but actual screen time is virutally minimal. We have next week and thats it for ages again. They should have extended it properly and taken a more original route.

As somone posted on DS

"On the other hand, keeping them together and carrying on behind her back til she finds out, is boringly predictable.

And anyway, to me, they aren't that steady a couple for her to devastated. More hurt pride than anything, specially as she's cheated on him herself, anyway!

But it'll be what they do, and that's boring. It also, as I said, curtails precious scenes between JP and Craig cos she'll always be there, so all they'll be doing with JP and Craig is having them have furtive meetings for sex, rather than a secret relationship.

I was hoping they'd do it that JP would finish with Spike, Craig would finish with Sarah, and they'd carry on their relationship in secret, (until the truth came out) but being free to be together when they want to be cos there's no Sarah and Spike to lie to (and take up precious screen time between them!) . They could have Sarah just being baffled as to why Craig isn't on his knees all the time begging her to take him back! She could see he was happy and maybe guesses there's someone else he's seeing and she wonders who it is .... something like that, and when she finds out the truth, that could still be as 'shocking' and 'dramatic' whether she's with Craig or not cos you assume it would never occur to her he's with JP, not after telling Craig he was homophobic the other week! .... but I was just hoping they'd have them both without their other halves and being able to be together when they want to be, they'd just do it in secret. And we could have seen scenes of them being happy together because they ARE happy they're finally together, even in secret.

Unfortunately they're doing it the way I dreaded they'd do it - the boring and predictable ' soap love triangle' way"

I soo agree with you. This storey has been dropped like a hot potato over the last few week's while when before it was a constsant topic on the show.Just when thing's seemed to be moving in the direction of there affair it's been left to go cold. What are the producers doing?.....i don't really have a clue. It's obvious it's a good storeyline as soo many viewers have made comment's on these forum's but now it's being messed about.I can kinda see little bit's being fed out in drib's and drab's and him then just leaving. What a waste of time hey,it's started of soo promising but in the end it hasn't lived up to the hype afterall.very dissapointing as the acting has been brill from everyone envolved. Disappointed

Current indications are that the producers are pretty dumb. Some of the writers, however, are pretty smart.

On the producing front, we see take down notices sent to youtube for previews, probably the best single viral advertising network available to the show. The producers do not even realise that one of the major reasons for their increase in viewing figures is people finding the JP/Craig storyline via this route and then tuning in.

On the writing front, i think we will see a number of developments and twists in the JP/Craig relationship but we are unlikely to see the same pinnacle achieved as with JP's coming out. Remember the writers are not responsible for dragging the story out in terms of limited screen time. The writers get a pass for having kept us guessing for so long.

Why mess Guy about for these few scenes. The huge gaps destroy the on screen atmopshere. Better to have one intense week with lots of screen time and then he goes. I dont want him to go at all but odd minutes here and there dragged out over months is stupid.

Its also misleading for fans who expected to see him for 3 MONTHS. It looks like its going to be more like 3 MINUTES. They could have done so much with this story. Its so frustrating.

The question is though hy focus on Craig and John Paul when you have another big storyline in who tried to kill Clare.
They cannot keep focusing on one storyline all the time as others will find it boring so they have to vary the storylines. It isn't as if they have dropped the storyline totally just moved onto other storylines to resolve them.

It's infuriating 'cos on all the forums it's much bigger story that the "who pushed Clare" thing and the McQueen's weddings.

I am now convinced that no-one from HO actually reads these forums !!

The JP/Craig thing is not the only storyline!

There is a problem though... too many storylines so the huge gaps do have an effect on the dramatic impact on any of the storylines. They've given the Claire story a good few days of momentum but imagine if that was spread out the way the Craig/JP storyline has been.

I think fans of the love affair have every right to be p'd off.

I think the producers have been canny regarding the extension. Its probably 3 weeks work strung out for 3 months.

My entire sorority is into the JP and Craig story in Hollyoaks. We also make our boyfriends watch it. The census is JP's oldest sister is the hottest girl on the show. Anyways, lets get the JP and Craig storyline overwith already, so we can get into JP's next storyline, (life after Craig).

We know this is all Guy's fault, he makes it so obvious he's got issues with acting as a bi-curious character in all his interviews. This storyline could be going on for another year since James decided to extend his contract that long, but Guy's decided to leave the show.

This delay could be the writers still trying to write or decide Craig's goodbye story.

What rubbish. Guy has made it clear in interviews he's enjoyed this storyline (havent you read the latest interview) and is thrilled the producers gave him this opportunity.

I really hate it when people jump to making mad conclusions like that.

Agreed Audrey well out of order and bordering on slander. Listen to the radio 1 interview for example and in the Latest Inside Soap interview e.g it says

Guy admits that, as an actor he's enjoying this challenging storyline...

"I've been playing Craig Dean as a hetersexual lad for four years, so it's been tough making the transition to him developing feelings for another bloke," explains the 23-year-old actor. "But that's why it's been so much fun"

Guy has a dry sense of humour, maybe its lost on some people.

Anyway back to topic. I suppose they have lots of plots because it is a show thats 5 days a week. But the downside is there will be lots of plots people dont like and get bored watching. I glaze over when the rest of the Mcqueens are on or the Ashworths but everyone's different and some wont like the C/JP story.

I do think some plots suit a short burst(Claire) and some can be drip fed in over a long time. Some though I think benefit from some additional concentrated air time now and then. The love affair fits into that category and I dont think we've seen enough scenes lately. We do get some next week which will be lovely but sadly we go back to crumbs again almost immediately. I think thats whats annoying fans and its more important now given Guy's leaving.

I just hope we get plenty of air time in Late July and through August.

I agree with the guy on ds the storyline has gone downhill theyve turned it from a sensitive story about a guy coming out and the impact that had on him and others, Into a storyline about two blokes neither of whom are behaving in a likeable manner sleeping together behind everyones back, If it was intensley focussed on over some of the other excellent current storys in Hollyoaks such as the Ashworths or Clares it would drive me mad.

Funny how we all like different things. The Ashworths story bores me rigid. You just dont care about them.

I love the Craig/JP storyline but do feel they've chickened out on a more sophisticated route. I suppose the bril acting and chemistry from Guy and James makes me forgets its a soap. Silly me.

I'd have liked more screen time for this story to properly flesh out what was hinted at. The producers/writers have teased us and not delivered e.g we dont even see close warm loving scenes between Craig and JP. I know we get one glimpse next week but thats about it.

So to get back to the original poster - yes there hasnt been enough screen time and yes the producers have probably bugged uo somethig we wont get.

I wouldnt have started this thread if I thought someone would start making up rubbish about Guy. He likes the storyline, get over it.

I was down last night when I saw such little amount of air time for Guy's leaving story but didnt want to imply I've not loved every teeny second of the Craig/JP affair. Its the only reason I watch HO and I adore Guy.

I've decided just to enjoy next week and savour every second. Anyone else stuck in because of mega thunderstorm. Its pitch black at the moment.

It doesnt really make sense. If he's thrilled and enjoying this challenging storyline so much why is he leaving in July?

Playing the same role for 4 years might have something to do with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's used HO as a training ground, which is great experience for him but now is the time to move on and play other roles. Who the hell would want to end up like some of those on Cornonation Street playing the same part year after year. He's too young to be trapped like that. I never understand actors who stay in soaps for years. The whole point about acting is playing different roles. Its risky of course but if you want steady money then go and work in a bank.

He needs to capitalise on his looks, talent and current pr. Its a perfect time to go.

Isnt this year the one where the writers decided to challenge his boundaries as an actor? Now he's leaving. The storyline he's in right now is very interesting and what got me hooked on t
