Mel and Sophie Burton are about to settle down for a quiet night when Sonny Valentine comes bursting through the door telling them to get out immediately. "This is our house."
Shortly after this, their poor Mum Diane gets hit by a car, driven by Jake causing a spur of hate towards the Deans/Osbournes from the hurt and distraught Valentines.
The Valentines, taking in Justin, spark a crush from Sasha on Justin, resulting in the two sleeping together. Yet Justins affections do not lie with the newcomer when he rejects her, causing Sasha to attempt all sorts of new make overs to win him round.
Recently, Sasha has tried numerous times to keep Justin from being kicked out of the house but eventually, failed miserably against Calvin and Louise's final decision.
Yes, Sasha has hardly been the most thrilling and exciting newcomer, and yes, she may not be the best actress on the show but I am starting to get a bit tired of the Sasha hate.
Admittedly, I was with the majority of the forum in finding her immensly irritating with her "Ohhhhhhhhh Calvin..." tone of voice and her repetitive and predictable lines of "Justin..." followed by a sigh. However, it appears some of you are taking this Sasha hating thing way too far.
Give the girl a break! This is her first proper acting job, shes hardly going to be an expert instantly. To be fair to the actress, I dont believe Sasha has been given a fair chance. All we have seen her do is mourn over her recently deceased relative (hardly a fun storyline to enter the soap with like so many of the other characters have had) and lust over Justin (who, when she arrived, was hated by the huge majority, hardly a character you want to be associated with.)
Sasha is a dark horse and has so much potential as a character. She reminds me alot of little Olivia, who, if only given the right storyline could have really blossomed into a favourite. Sasha has the right morals (she stood up for Justin, convinced she was helping a victim send a twisted pervert to prison) and constantly reminded Calvin, Sonny, Louise and Leo to pay respects to Diane. She is more than capable of the "Justin, Calvin, Sonny, Louise, moan, moan, moan, moan" lines she is constantly given.
Call Sasha wooden, call her a bad actress, but how can you truely judge Nathalie Emmanuel until you have seen her deliver a different set of lines other then sighing and moaning at Calvin or Justin! If anything, the reason for Sashas unpopularity is down to the scriptwriters lack of ideas for the newcomer character. They really should have planned it thoroughly as audiences are always readily excited upon new arrivals.
Look at Kris, a cross-dressing bisexual, something fresh and new to every soap, not just Hollyoaks. John Paul, his first storyline watched intently by many people in the same situation/intrigued about such a big issue. Mercedes and the other McQueens, creating scandal. The Ashworths, romancing and meeting new people (especially those of the opposite sex) which is great, if you're into those sort of storylines.
And then you get to Sasha...mourns her Mum. Great. No really, just the right "fun and vibrant" personality that people are going to immediately relate to. Shes hardly going to score points with the audience when she aligns herself with one of the most hated characters in Hollyoaks.
Lets see the scriptwriters challenge Nathalie Emmanuel before you lot execute her just yet! Im not going to judge until I have seen her be given a fair chance!
Yeah, I've seen some stuff written about her that hasn't been very nice(putting it politely) but I've not really been a member long enough to know how much people hate the girl. I hope Nathalie Emmanuel, if she does come on here, she takes it as a challenge to prove people wrong, rather than getting upset because it's just not worth it x

I dont dislike Nathalie Emmanuel cause i dont even know who she is - i hate Sasha Valentine though. Its not helped by the fact that Nathalie cant act (but thats never been a disability in Hollyoaks casting though).
I have just had enough of her 'oh Justin' 'CALVIN'. She is just a reincarnation of Nicole Owen. Who by pure coincedence i didnt like either!!!
You support my theory that its largely down to the scriptwriters then. I really do think she'd be better percieved if she wasnt lusting after an extremely hated character and had a bit of fun every once in a while.
Her Mum is dead. I'm surprised the other characters don't seem to remember that Diane Valentine got knocked down and killed, or they just don't care. And personally, I'd moaning too if I lived with Louise.

I actually thought some of her scenes when she was "making friends" with Jake after he hit-and-run accident were quite good!
Some were moving and deep.
I hope she gets a few more chances, to act with more developed actors. I think her characters main problem is shes only used with her family, or Amy and Michaela...
Maybe a few more scenes with Jake would do her some good

Hahahaha! I couldnt agree more! Her two brothers are off "romancing", her Dads giving other parents STIs and there Sasha is, coping by herself, no one giving even the slightest bit of sympathy.
And as for the Louise comment? Could you actually imagine it?! She'd wake up and start throwing a tantrum because she cant find her make up brush. Either that or she'd start screaming because Calvin wasnt showering in attention for a couple of seconds to use the loo.

Sasha's attitudes towards her family are moany because they keep doing things to upset/annoy her. I agree, if Sasha were to have some scenes, for instance, with Jake, then we'd see a different side to the character. I remember the scene where he was planting some flowers and Sasha helped- she wasnt moany then and I actually quite liked her! Amy and Michaela are too wrapped up in the pregnancy storyline to involve Sasha now...
Im just worried Sasha Valentine is going to be written off/cast aside and known as a "bad actress" when she really hasnt been given a chance! Please scriptwriters, dont give up on Sasha just yet!
Definately. I mean, the Hollyoaks team are now saying "Oh, its obvious the Valentines havent been popular with the public."
- Calvin isnt particularly unpopular, its all to do with where people stand on the Louise love triangle (which is as interesting as watching paint dry.) - Sonny is not nice and therefore the audience has every reason to dislike him. He bullies, lies and cheats on a number of different characters (Calvin, Sasha, Michaela and John Paul to name but a few), is it any wonder hes unpopular?
Whereas...
- What has Sasha actually done to make her so unpopular? Shes just been given rubbish storylines, and that is not Nathalies fault, it is the scriptwriters fault. Why doesnt Sasha get plots as spoken about as Sonny and Michaela or Calvin and Louise?
Dont judge her until we actually see what she can do. It would be tragic to see her get written off when she could be very capable of so much more!
Hollyoaks team- dont make the mistake of writing off Sasha because she is "unpopular." Its because you have failed to supply her with a decent/interesting/remotely entertaining storyline. Give her a chance please!
I like the Valentines too! I dont understand how people developed such a loathing HATE for them. It seems slightly harsh, I mean, none of them have done anything particularly evil, with the exception of Sonny who has done a bit of bullying here and there. (But compared to the likes of Warren, who is adored by alot of people, that is nothing.)
Well theres lots of rumours the director has taken notice of their "unpopularity" and is planning to axe them. I dont know how much truth is in the statement, but its certainly based on a whole lot of truth. The director would be likely to axe unpopular characters as Hollyoaks is trying to make itself even more popular with audiences.
Dont give up on the Valentines just yet guys! Don't complain about hating the Valentines, complain about the lack of chance Sasha has had- really, your comments are unjustified if you look back at it...she barely has had a chance at all!
I guess...the more you lot spout hate towards Sasha, the more she grows on me? Is Sasha becoming one of my favourites because of this?
Its interesting alot of the "I THINK SASHA IS RUBBISH" posters cant come up with a valuable and justified post in a discussion that is arguing against their opinion isnt it?
Oh dear - have just found this thread and really hope I'm not perceived as a 'Sasha Basher' (see worst..... thread). That's not how I want to come across, I just think that she's very limited in her abilities (judging by what we've seen so far) but yes, that's down to the scriptwriters. You DO have to give someone the opportunity to showcase their talents and that isn't happening here. Max x

I love her hair! I wish I had hair like that but it would look a tad strange on me I think! Please don't let it be said that I'm a 'basher' of any kind though. I'm sure she's lovely and will have the opportunity to reach her full potential soon! Max x
