This has been getting on my nerves a bit, I don't think Hollyoaks writers have set a good example by showing Hannah and JP jumping into bed together after a few weeks of sort of dating.
I know this show is probably aimed at age 17 +, but thier are going to be younger viewers. When JP told Hannah he wasn't ready, I thought "great, Hollyoaks are showing starting a sexual relationship isn't a small thing" but then Hannahs reaction and how JP suddenly decides after ten minutes "he's ready" just made me mad.
I just don't think it's a good example that Hollyoaks are setting, any one agree?

Yeah, I think I agree with that. If I was Hannah, I'd be a bit surprised that (like you said) after ten minutes he's suddenly ready. I don't know if I'm the only that thinks this but sex just seemed to be the only aim in the whole thing; it's all Hannah seemed to want and yeah I think it was definately too rushed.

I really don't like how on Hollyoaks relationships always either start with sex or they start sleeping together after a week or two.
I mean Zoe was "in love" with Joe then had a one night stand with Zac (Though I'm sure they slept together at least twice) and now shes sleeping with Will. I mean shes only been in the show about 3 and a half months.
Everyone thought Lisa was so lovely as well and she slept with like 6 people in a year. Two of which were one night stands and another two involved her as the other woman.
Hannah is clearly just trying to loose her virginity cause all her friends have.
The bad example thing has crossed my mind. Sort of makes me cringe when my 11 year old sister is watching it with me. But.. they are 17, the average age for cherry poppin, so I heard. Also, they have represented the negative effects of unsafe sex on the show, e.g. STIs, unwanted pregnancy, feeling used etc on the show. I think its a misconception that what happens on telly is to blame for the choices kids make. A prime example of society avoiding responsibility.
Also, I think to say "But this is what life is like. I don't know anyone who waits". Is quite a poor, ill-informed attitude. Maybe your social circle "don't wait" and maybe they are sensible, use protection and no-one gets hurt. But, a friend once said to me when I was about 16 that "people in mature adult relationships don't wait before they have sex". I took this really seriously. Now at the age of 22 I realise that it is quite normal and possibly for the best, if you bide your time, for a few weeks at least. For me personally, sex seems to release a whole new set of feelings and I don't invest these in anyone lightly. Maybe I'm just over-sensitive, but I think you're very lucky if you haven't been burned. I would like to add, that I in no way think people who make other choices are wrong or immoral. These are just my choices.
Well said Karen! I feel Hannah's character is really sweet but the writers are making her into a desperate slapper! Desperate to bed JP just because Sarah's done it with, well actually who hasn't she done it with? If only the writers could explain this in the storyline so that youngsters can understand theres no desperate rush to lose your virginity. Rather than just showing a can't wait to get my kit off Hannah!
yes tottaly agree they do set bad examples ....but i think they do it cause it pleases us !!! ...Also i think by showin jp an hannah havin sex an it bin awkward will probs show the viewers ....if u rush sex it will be awkward ....
I think in a way it is realistic...the comment about people sleeping with shock horror 3 people since starting uni or 6 people in a year - it's not exactly uncommon?!
Also in general it's a bad idea to be looking at hollyoaks for moral guidance lol...because being a date rapist, murderer, sleeping with your students, trying to kill your boyf for his money are also pretty bad examples to set
i do agree that its a bad example, but at the end of the day this is how things really happen! young people do jump in to bed like that and i spose its just making the show more real! but yeh "example wise" it may not be best. but thier both quite sweet people!

Although i think that maybe it is a bad example, surely the same thing could be said about Amy? Shes even younger and pregnant!
At least Hannah and JP were "careful" and it is like real life. Im 16 and i know girls my age who had slept with about 7 people by the time they were 15!
You have to wonder why these young girls are so desperate to have sex in the first place. It's the fact its thrown in your face on TV constantly! who knows influences might change if there wasn't such a big influence on SEX!
yeah i think ur rite, but at the end of the day they r sort of goin for the whole "we're going to make everything seem as real and life like as possible without being boring and having everyone in the space of this small place look as gorgeous and skinny as possible" thing.
i dont understand hannah at all, she always seemed so sweet and its like all of a sudden she wants nothing more than to lose her virginity. dont understand why its such a big deal to her.
also foreplay doesnt seem to exist in soaps. why dont they start at handjobs if theyre both so nervy and annoying about doing it?!
