Resident Evil certainly. Lotus esprit Turbo challenge (to give it its proper title) was good as was the third one, but the second was just time trial so I never got into it. Personall favourites for me are Medieval Total war on pc, and the Secret of Monkey Island games.

Never played Medieval TW only Rome TW and Shogun TW. Can't say I was that impressed with either - OK against a human opponent but the AI is dreadful.
Any strategy game which allows you to put your troops on top of a hill with a cliff face while the AI just mills its troops around the base of the cliff as you decimate them with arrows instead of sending them round the side to get at you is fatally flawed.

Final Fantasy Kingdom Hearts Resident Evil Gran Turismo Star Wars Battlefront
...Just to name a few.
None of the FFX games were sequels they were all stand alone storys with the exeption of FFX-2 which goes down as far as i'm concerned as the biggest computer game let down ever, actually I'm wrong FF VII has a sequel now too!
"A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man"
"Embiggens, phfft that isn't even a word"
"Of course it is Lisa, it's a perfectly crumulent word"
MGS 2 Resident Evil 2 Tekken 2,3,4 and 5 Gran Turismo 3 (Two was a let down) Tony Hawks THUG BFME2 Mario 3 Sonic 3 + Sonic and Knuckles Burnout 3 (Revenge was crap) Shinobi 2 (Im showing my age here lol) Crash Bandicoot 2 + 3 Double Dragon 2 Pacman World Command & Conquer Red Alert and Generals Golden Axe 2 Grand Theft Auto 3 + Vice City Wipeout 2097
Those are just a few off the top of my head where the sequels were an improvement or the best of a seireis of games!

Dune 2 has to be the best sequel in that it really was the first RTS game. That said since the original Dune was an arcade adventure then arguably Dune 2 wasn't a sequel except in name.
Remember these? Stinkbombs, pea-shooters hidden on the fire escape, writing rude words on the blackboard, releasing mice in the girls' school. Not forgetting helping yourself to the teachers' sherry and getting lines when the swot told tales on you... classic.
Best thing is, they can both be played online at the World of Spectrum website. There's even been a remake for the PC.
