I have seen this game on GBA, but not on PS2. On the GBA I found it quite boring tbh.

I played that game on the Amiga, way back when. It was my favourite platform game! All the levels had an interesting theme. One was made up of jelly and ice cream, another of lego bricks and another of vinyl records. The music was great, too. Never played the PS2 version, though. Sorry.

Essentially, it's a bog-standard platformer. You begin outside a huge castle with many doors. Inside each door is a themed level, in which you must progress from one end to the other. Along the way, you can collect items that will aid you - for example, extra lives, speed, limited invincibility etc. Watch out for the bizarre creatures that roam these places, for they will leech your health upon contact.

Once the level is completed, you arrive outside again and can choose another door. Some rooms house end-of-level nasties which have to be killed by jumping on their heads, or something (Mario-style). James Pond wears a bio-suit which enables him to extend upwards and climb along ceilings. He can also drive some vehicles in one transport-themed level, including a biplane and an old Aston Martin.

I think the overall objective is to restore Christmas by defeating a giant snowman Snowman. Daft, I know, but frivolity is the name of the game, here. I'm sure the PS2 version has much better graphics, but whether it captures the magic of the original, I cannot say. Have fun!

I have the PS1 version (got it 2nd hand before I realised there was a PS2 version), and the magic from the Amiga version is still very much intact. Even the stick-in-yer-head music is there, albeit technologically better.

It's a good, clean, bit of harmless pick-up-and-play fun.
