The next generation battle has already started, but...

Question:
Who will win the next great console war?

Choices:
Nintendo Wii
PS3
XBox 360
Nintendo DS
PSP
I'd rather upgrade my PC
I'm too busy playing Missile Command on my Atari 2600 to care

i love nintendos consoles and electronics i love their games aswell!^^
it has a wide range of games to war games for boys to nintendogs for girls.
Sony on the otherhand dosnt concerntrate on games alone they do televisions Roll Eyesand cameras.
id rather stick to one company that concertatrates on games then one thats justs pretty graphics

Yeh, every one was expecting big things from sony, and then they go and delay the launch date(which is fair enough if they want to make it perfect i suppose)

This is the reason why I think the wii will benefit from not having competetion from sony. Plus the Wii is like a million times cheaper anyway lol.

Although Im totally neutral regarding this so called "battle of the consoles", we must all realise that the Wii is aimed at a completely different end of the market. Infact, its promo vidz all endeavour to show it being a "family-orientated" gaming machine. TBH I believe the Wii will end up being (quite rightly) a niche system.

The "battle" is really between xbox360 and the PS3, and only the games (and third party support) will decide who ultimately "win."

Do you mean you think that xbox360 and PS3 will stick with the traditional geeky teenage boy games of running around killing things or driving around really fast?

And therefore be very popular with the traditional game playing market.

While Nintendo will try and do something different and innovative?

There are more families out there than there are teenage boys and at the prices we're looking at how many parents are going to be buying little Johnny a xbox360 or PS3 to lock himself in the bedroom with.

Nintendo might do well this time round.

Would you rathe go with a company that knows whats its doing and come up with frech new ideas(aka Wii!) or a company thats steals, nicks their opponents idea(aka Sony) and jacks up the price that only a few people can afford.

Go ahead choose your pick

Since the GameCube, Nintendo has been carving out a niche market. It hasn't marketed their system to the "hardcore gamers"...just look at their adverts. However, I DO think they have been very innovative of late...and also methinks VERY clever at not wanting to compete directly with Xbox and Playstation 3 (its specs are below par if compared with the others).

Ultimately, the Wii may end up being seen as the cooler system of the three. Whether that equates to being the best, I don't know.

I hope the Nintendo Wii wins the war.

For only £170, it deserves to win.

The PS3 maybe powerful, but at almost £500, it's massively overpriced.

The Xbox 360 is cool, but it can't match the Wii for value.

It's an interesting contest, as we have three very different consoles.

Nintendo have not gone out to make the best hardware, but tried to maximise the fun element of their games while keeping the price low. A wise move, given that they are probably no longer in a position financially to chase the huge billion dollar development costs which Sony and Microsoft have at their fingertips.

Sony have gone bleeding-edge on just about every front, from the cluster of Cell chips around the PPC core which drives the machine, to the huge capacity Blu-Ray drive. The down side is that with so much untested hardware there are bound to be problems in the first few months after release. The upside is the PS3 hardware will have a much much longer shelf life, and will get much much cheaper as the months role by.

I think Microsoft have played it safe with the XBox 360. Effectively it is just a 'better mousetrap'. There's nothing about the hardware which is particularly revolutionary, they're still using old DVD technology and a CPU design which has been around for decades: all they've done is bumped the spec up to modern standards. The one interesting point about the 360 is not its hardware, but the 'Live' on-line community which supports it. They're an old saying: "Microsoft never got anything right until the third version."

If the 360 wins out over the PS3 then that would certainly be like (the technically inferior) VHS winning out over (the technically superior) Betamax. Betamax lost because it didn't attract enough 'software' however - and software is something which the Playstation has plenty of, with most of the big name franchises being PS-first or PS-exclusive.

The Wii is an interesting experiment, and I can see it catching on with young children and infrequent gamers who don't have high expectations of their games. The controller is a bit of a gimmick - sure it works great for certain types of game (Fishing, Tennis) which Nintendo have ensure are what get demo'd at trade shows - but do you really want to play a FPS with a controller like *that*?

I swapped my PS2 for an XBOX, so I could play Half-Life 2 as soon as it was released in console format.

Why would I want to buy a PS3 or XBOX360 and have the same old thing?

I'll have a Wii...Playing the next Zelda and waving the controller around as a virtual sword sounds good.

Just because the PS has always dominated, it doesn't mean to say that they will dominate this time.

me and my brother are always having this argument. me being the a loyal playstation supporter and him loving the x-boxes. he got a 360 as soon as it came out. hes now on his seventh replacment. it keeps crashing. also 360 live wont work. my friend is on his 3rd replacment to.

the 360 is crap.

ps3 have done the right thing delaying the release. making sure its perfect and not the low standard console that the 360 is.

lol, you seem to have strong views on this but, you can't judge how good/bad any console is on just 2 people. I mean real gamers just want to play games. So in the end it doesn't matter what console you use or what console you think is better/worse.

Yeh but i dont think that they sould of delayed the release date cause itn was gonna be ready fr christmas right? and that was the time where children would need a new console and without PS3 in the picture until whaterv date, Wii's gonna have an upperhand Big Grin(hurrah)
x360 isnt gonna be hard to beat

i would rather have a console after christmas than have an imperfect one at christmas.

" I mean real gamers just want to play games."

i agree with that but i have strong views because the first console i played on was the ps1 and i fell in love with it. i dont like the other consoles as much because they just dont have that classic playstation feel.

i do like the some games on other consoles eg. supersmash brothers, but there are so many class games for the playstation.

Sorry, but that was actually pretty crap! I've been a gamer for over 25 years and this 'next gen' has got to be the least exciting ever (just like that ad). I fully understand that graphics do-not-a-game-make, but even that isn't much of a leap from the PS2.

The 'next gen' has come too soon (Micro$oft's fault really) and it really shows!!
