McLaren is Sven with an English accent. He does the table thumping, heart bashing, screaming, dancing, prancing around of an English manager....but ultimately he will be even more of a failiure because he is exactly that, English.
English managers should be judged by their record. And that record is a damning indictment of English managers as a whole.
Sven, if nothing else, got England through to the Quarter Finals of every tournament he contested. Do we really have to cast our minds back to the days when English managers struggled to even do this?
Take another look at England's group for Euro 2008. Croatia will not be easy away, nor will Russia. Both could also cause problems over here. Its not looking like the procession some expected when the draw was made. But then a lot has happened since then I guess....
All Im saying is I won't be suprised if we fail to qualify for Euro 2008 under McLaren.

He led us down the loosing path the miniute he took a striker who had never played on an International stage! Once Owen got injured that was it, we were left with few options. We should have had another striker there with experience. Sven was scared of playing the "golden" boy he found and so we were left with the frustration of Rooney having to play solo up front - which led to his sending off - which led to us having to YET AGAIN bravely play and defend most of the match with 10 men. We did well and hung on till penalties which at the end of the day are nothing more than a lottery. But imo England had lost the World Cup the moment Sven picked his squad!!

We all complain about Sven, but just look who gives the orders......McClaren does, when we were getting ready to take the penalties Sven was quiet and stood back while McClaren gave out the orders. I'm glad to see Sven go, he should of gone 4 years ago, but the problem is that the bloke who gives out the orders is still here, so what is going to change? Nothing is. A foreign manager or a much better English manager than McClaren is needed.

English managers are pitiful. The trophy record of the last 25 years is hilarious. And we expect these trophyless 2nd rate coaches to then become a star on international level and suddenly land their 1st trophy on an International stage. Its never going to happen.
The obsession with English coaches will keep English football in the doldrums for many more years to come. Unless attitudes change, 40 years of hurt will quickly become 50, 60, 70, 80....
