There are rumours that the new Liverpool stadium is getting pulled because of the 'credit crunch' and a reluctance (understandable!) from Hicks and Gillette to take on that debt in uncertain economic times. Seems to have gone quiet on that front though.

What's going to happen to Everton if Liverpool build their new ground next door to Goodison?

Some suggested that Everton could take over Anfield but that seems very unlikely.

If, as seems more likely, Everton go to a new stadium (in Kirby?), will this moderate the old rivalry? What do Liverpool and Everton fans think about it?

I thought they had voted to put the stadium in Kirby. Is a bit of a weird situation as Anfield was once Evertons ground.

There was a suggestion that they'd consider a move back, and you can see the logic in it, in that it would be a momentus return to their original ground and to a better stadium.

Surely that would have stired up the rivalry?

Still, it makes you think how English football history would have been so different if Everton had agreed to that rent rise on Anfield back in 1898 or whenever and Liverpool FC would have never been born!
