Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad player, although I don't think he's of Premiership calibre, let along up to competing in the Champions League etc.

Crouch just doesn't seem to fit in. Liverpool aren't a long ball team. Why buy Crouch and let Baros go?

For the price of Crouch and the money they got for him from Real, Liverpool could have had Owen, a proven goal scorer at every level, back in their squad.

I iz confuzzed.

Kleberson didn't work for ManYoo, but they didn't build their whole midfield around him in a way that Liverpool are building their attack
around Crouch.

Real Betis had no idea how to defend against Crouch, I think he'll be a good signing (and that's from a Toffee!), this said, Owen is far more prolific.

The Woodgate signing is worse than the Crouch one. It's because he looks unorthodox for a footballer but he had a good season with Southampton last year so I say give him a chance to prove himself.

Titus Bramble? Carl Cort? Dean Richards?

The list of awful signings for big money goes on. No-one mention James Beattie, ok?

He does miss-p. In fact I'm surprised he's a footballer at all but it seems to work somehow.

Slap Matt...you obviously didn't see him in the CL qualifiers, or the pre-season friendlies...he fits right in! He is a nightmare to defend against, and there was no way that Liverpool were going to cough up the money Madrid were after. If Madrid thought that Owen was a £16m striker, why didn't they offer that a year ago? Liverpool did ofer the same £8m that they sold him for, but Madrid wern't interested. That said, with Baros leaving, we do need someone like Owen, and I wouldn't have been sorry to see him return

we need to play Cisse with Crouch, but Rafa's decided he hates him, has scored a few when he's played though, rumour has it he was sent home from training as he couldn't figure out something to do with staying onside, with his pace he should neve need to be offside!!

who's available in january though? pongo deserves a long run in the team, and not just on the wing, and we have the "prolific" morientes back in a couple of weeks, him and crouch would be deadly if anyone ever bothered to cross the ball in

some other poor signings recently:

veron, demba djemba, taibi - utd

kewell, diouf, diao, cheyrou - liverpool

smertin, jarosik, johnson - chelsea (why sign the first two if they're never going to play?)

wreh, cygan, any keeper - arsenal

too lazy to go through everyone, rebrov etc

As a Villa fan, I think Crouch was made a scapegoat here, although he didn't help himself by keep missing the target and by saying "goals aren't really his game". He is a decent player, who's come on since he left us, but I have doubts he'll progress to being international class and therefore, I think you paid way too much for him.

As for other bad signings

Villa - Djemba Djemba, Berson (why track one player all close season, play him for 9 games then turf him back out on loan), Balaban, Laursen (looks a good player, but he'll have a record of less than 20 games, in 2 seasons).

"If I'd never loved, I never would have cried".

Everton's bad signings:

Slaven Bilic, Ibrahima Bakayoko (he was great on Champ Man!), Abel Xavier, Alex Nyarko (Given a four year deal when he had a 3 year work permit, I kid you not!), Richard Wright (though he's not been given a fair crack). I'll give Beattie a bit more time Wink

Wreh was worth every penny for the one goal that won us the league....and he wasnt that expensive Big Grin

Crouch is tall but he is more than a long ball fashanu/heskey type player he can play football too so he is a long way off being the worst signing ever...

They had to sell Owen as he was refusing to sign a new contract and only had 12 months left to run on his current one, it was £8m or nothing.

Hardly Robson's fault or Marcelino.

What about Veron to Man U?
*ROFL*

well if you look back at how many spanish players have made it in the premiership at centre back, the warning signs were there, marcelinho wanted home from the outset, big fat waste of money, £6 million ish plus his wages!!

size of the fee maybe, but at least veron played a few games, and even had a few decent matches
