The FIFA rankings are often interesting but one thing I noticed is that Liechtenstein, with a population of 35 000, is ranked higher than India, with a population over 1 000 000 000.

I know India is not exactly a powerhouse of world football but this fact simply boggles the brain.

There are many such mind-boggling positions in FIFA's ranking system.

The thing with this one though is, weak as they are at football, Lichtenstein would probably beat India, as hockey is India's national sport, closely followed by cricket. No-one bothers with football there. They have, however, just appointed a world reknowned coach (his name escapes me at the moment) who seems to be pro-active in finding talent around the world, and even tried to recruit Cardiff's new striker, Michael Chopra, who's family are originally from India, apparently

One of the most bizarre is Guinea who seem to have lept up the world order by virtue of not going to the WC it seems.

we all know the FIFA rankings are just a joke though

India are rubbish are football, simple as that, there main sport is Cricket, of whom they are really good at, Football rubish!!

I agree-this is a very odd thread with no subject matter. Or at least one that escapes me.

Does the OP, by his own assumptions, think China should have every champ in all sports just because there are a couple of billion of them???
