The Premier League/FA, or whoever it is thought this up, are advocating that only the captain (And I don't mean CaptVimes! Wink) of a team be allowed to approach the ref when a decision is to be made, as in rugby. do others on here think this is a good idea?

Personally, I think this is great, but I believe the lawmakers may have copped out slightly in trialling it in grass roots football, as they say that the youngsters can see their idols doing this and will copy what they do. If this is the case, bring it in to top class games immediately. There shouldn't really need to be a trial and it would probably cut out a lot of dissent immediately and go some way to clearing the game up.

But, with captains like John Terry around, is this doomed to failure anyway?

Well IMO i think its a geeat idea, its ridic that a player runs the whole length of the pitch to get a player booked when he didnt see the incident

so yeah give it a try i say

Even with John Terry then this is still better than 10 players doing it. I like the idea as long as its implemented equally (ie not have only one or two scape goats early in the season as always seems to happen with these rules) and not for just 3 months and then forget the rule exists/pretend the rule never existed in the first place.

I thought this was already a guideline that the captain should be the only one. The problem arises as with any kind of dissent what do you do when teams will inevitably break the rule.

In rugby giving 10 yards is a hurtful punishment in football its not so bad and we have no sin bin either.

I can see a few lemmings testing the water in the first few weeks of the season but if given an EVEN and firm hand then it should work.

Makes sense to me to have only the club captain approach the ref otherwise what is the point of having one (a capt I mean!)?

Doesn't seem to me that it makes a huge difference who the skipper is in a team these days. Since football's gone soft and guys with any grit and determination have all but been eradicated from the game, then I find it hard to see what job they actually do now.

JT and Gerrard are 2 that stick out, but I'm hard-pressed to rememeber many other club captains.

And the rule that was introduced a few years back where a free kick is moved forwards 10 yards in the event of dissent seems to have quietly disappeared. That was a good rule I thought

"Countries could not get their heads around it"?

Perhaps they should have looked at educating them instread of abandoning a rule which encourages good behaviour from players

That was a bit of a pathetic statement by Hackett.

The rule didnt really achieve anything IMO either inside or outside this country. There were very very few times where an extra ten yards made that much of a difference and a few I can remember being moved closer was more of a handicap. This translates into a In a game like rugby where you can score points by kicking it over the bar then its a tremendous advantage and therefore a deterant.

I take your point, Capt, and I agree to a point. But I do feel it was a good deterrent to playerrs bad behaviour
