Nice one Steve. The first 45 mins was the best England performance for years. The nation has new hope. I'm invigorated, the nation's invigorated, hell, even Shearer and the ex-pros on the panel have been invigorated. Keep up the good work. P.S. Did anyone miss "him"?

I'd like to think Beckham is gone for good regardless of how well he plays for Madrid. I get the impression McClaren is trying to introduce a high tempo pressing game, and the slow, slow, quick quick slow football of La Liga, which suits Beckham down to the ground, mainly because he lacks the technical ability to control the football in an instant and pass and move, is totally alien to the way McClaren wants England to play. Gone and soon to be forgotten, well, I hope so anyway.

I can't believe that the decision to omit him from the squad altogether is a sound one though. He brings 90-odd caps worth of experience to the squad and, by all accounts, is a good influence on younger players coming in

Zeds, my good man. I repeat, I get the impression McClaren is trying to introduce a high tempo pressing game, and the slow, slow, quick quick slow football of La Liga, which suits Beckham down to the ground, mainly because he lacks the technical ability to control the football in an instant and pass and move, is totally alien to the way McClaren wants England to play. You see, strutting around the Bernabeu at walking pace in acres of space 'pinging' the odd 40 yard crossfield ball and standing there admiring it with your hands on your hips isn't good enough for England. Thankfully the new England boss has recognised this fact. Way to go Stevie baby!

Of all the limitations in Beckham's game how on earth could you argue that he lacks technical ability is beyond me. He's probably the most technically gifted Englishman in the world. Granted he lacks pace and other attributes that Gerrard has but lets not deny his ability. Also watch a few games of la liga and you'l find that its hardly played at walking pace.

Always had a changeable opinion of Beckham. At times he was spot on.. but these days? Doesn't help his case when we are doing well enough without him... Though tonight will be interesting..

england will do better without him. they have better players for the right handside of midfield starting with Shaun wright phillips for. Beckham has had his day bring in some fresh meat.

Granted he lacks pace and other attributes that Gerrard has but lets not deny his ability. Also watch a few games of la liga and you'l find that its hardly played at walking pace.' He might have won his team mates over (eventually) by using other attributes, but his technical ability wasn't one of them. The word on the street was that the Madrid boys weren't happy with his skill levels. Apparently Raul was heard to say, "khee, khhhudn't tararrrrp h mediseeen ballo". And anyone who saw him being 'introduced' to the Madrid fans when he signed for Madrid will know what I'm talking about. I've heard comparisons were made with Peter Kaye and the John Smiths adverts. By the way Zeds, I watch quite a lot of La Liga and thanks to Skys love affair with the big two I see Beckham 'live' on a regular basis. The fact is I don't usually know Beckham's playing until he starts lining up to take a free-kick with that other has-been, Roberto Carlos. 'AVE IT!!!!!

What so you failed to notice that Beckham was by far the best Real Madrid player last season.

I did yes. Btw, along with Ronaldo and Carlos they should have given Raul the boot 2 years ago. Over the hill and rubbish the lot of them! I feel sorry for Gutti and Robhino me, quality players and both their careers have been stifled because of the "Galicticos" culture.

They had offers from other sides and chose to go there instead. Players should be earning enough now to decide which move is good for their career as well as their wallet.
