Terry Venables should never never have been 'xed. Sven's best position is horizantal with full frontal.
A. Curbishley has proven himself as well as Uncle Sam. Toss the coin between these two!

There is noone better than Sven. Even though he gets a little distracted from time to time with his exta caricula activies of skirt chasing he still is the best man for the job.

Steve is great at back up (i nearly said number two but i know how the minds work on this forum) but think the job needs to go someone stronger!

McLaren would work well with Big Sam... as his style is v similar to SAF...

Would any manager have done much better than Sven since 2001? Two quarter finals in the big tournaments (beaten by Brazil, and a penalty shoot-out) and now qualification for the forthcoming World Cup. It does seem like the team has gone as far as possible under Sven but the press's attitude toward him is predictable and pathetic. Why 'Sack the Swede' and not 'Sack the England manager' I wonder? It's not just The Sun and The Mirror who are whipping up anti-Eriksson sentiment. I particularly deplore James Lawton who writes pompous tabloid tosh for The Independent.
It seems certain we'll have an English manager next, which I think is a shame as there are foreign managers more suited to the role. Curbishley and Allardyce are proven in as much that they've done very well with small teams but I don't think this necessarily makes them candidates for international management. Graham Taylor anyone? Sam would perhaps provide a nice counterbalance with Sven, but when people talk about inspiring and motivating what they really mean is a manager jumping up and down and pulling his hair out. The press keep telling us Sven can't motivate, but how do we know? The players are probably crushed by the nation's over-expectation rather than inhibited by a lack of personal motivation. Lampard and Gerrard look like beleaguered and worried men in an England shirt, not the effervescent midfielders they are at club level. I'd wildly guess that the threat of national vilification is a bigger impediment to their performances than the absence of an English manager on the sidelines screaming and shouting.
Our attitude to our England managers is almost always fickle and crass. Bobby Robson was loathed until he took us to the semi-finals in 1990 then he became deified. I'm not Sven's biggest fan but we have just qualified for the World Cup with a game in hand. Let's also not forget that Sven was so popular once that he inspired a (dreadful) top ten hit all about him.
But if Sven had to go, I'll go for Luiz Felipe Scolari as replacement. And he's not available, Gus Hiddink.

OK, Souness is rubbish - I'd run out of ideas by no.10! Replace him with Chris Coleman.

A Welshman managing England? I don't think so! Ann Robinson would certainly have something to say about that! The next manager should definitely be English. I would also love to see Venables back in the job.
