Deal rumoured to be worth 16 million (surely that makes him the most expensive player Spurs ever sold?) I don't want him to leave!!!
If it's true though good luck to him and I hope it works out, I hate it when the big teams buy an influential player from lesser teams and then sit them on the bench, when that player could have been having a real impact at his old club. And at least we'll get some cash for him instead of just watching him walk off for nothing Sol Campell style!

I don't think he'll be sitting on the bench though. Those days are over for United now and I think he'll be a regular in the team. I feel for Tottenham fans though
Well I'm sad he's leaving because he's an important part of our team, but I feel it's also a shrewd bit of business by Martin Jol and the board. They offered him a contract, he didn't take it so they held out a bit longer, upped his price and then gave him a last chance to sign, which he didn't. It's obvious he wants to leave and if that's the case, there's no sense in trying to force him to stay, instead the club have got a nice sum of money. The money we get for Carrick (along with the money we had set aside for Duff before he went all toon army on us) will mean we can afford some really good players to strengthen other areas, which makes it somewhat more bearable! Glad the board have learnt from the mistake they made with the Sol Campbell situation, this is what we should have done with him.

Originally posted by Life Buoy: carricks a good player, but not a great player. we got at least 5 mill more than he was worth and he wouldnt sign an extension so he had to be sold. at least he didnt b/s the fans with a load of lies about staying so i wish him all the best trying to halt the slide at old trafford.
I was the one who said that Man Utd are no longer a lure for top players and i stand by that, the proof is in the last two years. Carrick should be ashamed of himself really, when he wasnt wanted by anyone, we took him, then he couldnt get off the bench at Spurs until Jol took over. Jol had to make a decision, to stick by Carrick and see what he could do, while the player everyone in football said was the better player "Mendes" was benched, but did Carrick repay that loyalty? No.
I am a massive Carrick fan and believe he should of started every game in the world cup, but Sven always prefered King and Hargreves over him. I believe we have the better player in Zokora(who turned Man U down), but i would of loved to of seen the two together, its a shame but thats Carricks loss. Carrick hasnt even been on the bench in the pre season friendlies and we all knew he was going because of it, but Spurs have done fantastic business, pushing Ferguson to the limit untill he broke, now we can use that money, and Jol is very wise, and we dont need any help in c/midfield, but we need a left sided midfielder and right back. My only complaint is that we stood a much better chance of knocking Utd out of the top 4 with Carrick, we have not made ourselves any weaker, but have strengthened our opposition.

i wouldnt say that nobody else was after carrick at that time. Arsenal were strongly linked until the vierra deal fell through that year. I do think that 16 mill is good business but that money will end up being spent on foreign players as english players are always overpriced.

Its not just English players that are overpriced, look at Shevchencho, Torres and Chimbonda. But using that money for Chimbonda, Sorin/Downing and Wayne Bridge would be great.

Oh i know it was, i'm just not into the business of naming names. You have blatant issues with Man Utd, shown throughout plenty of your posts. Regardless, i don't agree at all, and it'll be nice to watch United prove you (and all that follow that belief) wrong.

You may like to think that everyone has a problem with Man Utd, but it is not the case. Man U are still a quality side, but because of the growth of the other top 3 clubs in the Premiership, and a couple of others just outside the top 4. Spurs have managed to sign 3 players that Man U wanted, Tainio, Berbatov and Zokora, and we are not classed as CL quality.

£15,000,000 is not that much in today's climate, especially for a top English player, which always tend to cost more anyway.
I disagree. It's a hell of a lot of money for a player who's not established internationally, whatever you think of him at club level
Considering we paid £2.75m for him it is alot of money, but i bet he becomes a top England player, simply because he will be playing in the CL. I doubt Carrick would of left if we had made it into the CL, some players have no loyalty.

I hadn't realise your reading skills weren't upto scratch, ask someone to point out the part where i said YOU had a blatant issue with Man Utd. There's no escaping it, wherever you can get a dig in, you will, it's old and boring now. [/QUOTE]
I also add that you have as much of a clue as the rest of us as to what goes on with potential transfers, you're mearly playing a guessing game, one without the finer details.

In fairness Wot's, you do tend to elude that certain players are wanted by certain clubs, without providing any links or evidence. However, I do like the look of the new midfielder Liverpool gave a blooding to today...

Any player i have said that a team are looking at is from different fans from their own clubs website, or official fan bases, and not from the rubbish that is in the papers. As for the 3 players i have mentioned their is proof from the players in question, like Tainio who after Ferguson had been tracking him for over a year(just like he did with RVN), fergie managed to get him at Old Trafford, only for Tainio to be called back to do his national service, but once he finished it, and Spurs came after him, he said that there was no way he was going back to Old Trafford, when his childhood team wanted him. Zokora who said he only wanted to come to Spurs because of how Jol had changed them, and Berbatov who had the choice early on, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs after him, but Spurs pounced early. I dont have anything against Man U. I can understand why a player would not want to go to Chelsea, or why a striker may not want to go to Arsenal, but i am bemused at the number of players that have slipped away from Man U?
I believe that Liverpool will be the main title threat for Chelsea next season, although i believe that Carrick is a massive signing for Man U, and i wish Michael well.....as long as it doesnt interfere with us thaat is

man u have added senna to the midfield. senna and carrick could be the answer to their midfield problems, if they get a top striker man u could challenge chelsea this season.
