Duff has finally explained his reasons for turning Spurs down, he has said he was not happy just picking up his wages at Chelsea and not playing, but with Spurs the only club interested at one time, he decided he could not sign for Spurs because of his loyalty for Chelsea, and he even told Spurs the same and hoped they understood. Well done Duff, if only there were more players with that loyalty.
Mourinho did say that he didnt want to sell him to Spurs or Liverpool because he thinks they are contenders for his title, so i doubt that helped as well.

Exactly. Spurs offered £5m and it was rejected, Newcastle offered £5m and it was accepted. Chelsea have lost over £50m in 3 years and the only thing they care about is winning the Premiership and CL and not money. Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal, are a threat and he would never be allowed to go to them, Mourinho has even said so about Spurs and Liverpool, im know he would of included Arsenal and Man Utd as well.
Duff will improve any Premiership side he goes to, but Newcastle are not anywhere near being a threat to Chelsea, if they were to get seven quality players and a quality manager that would change, but that is just not going to happen. You have to feel sorry for the Toon fans, they deserve more than what they are getting.

he then went on to say, "Take my mother in law...please" Never going to win the Open Mic trophy, is he?
Oh, just a thought, the reason he chose Newcastle over the other two...'Personal Terms' ring any bells? Certain clauses in contracts can be very alluring
The past is history...The future a mystery. This moment is a gift...That's why it's the present.

I agree with you. Newcastle had an awful season last year yet finished just a few points off Spurs who-wotsisface will tell you-had a fantastic season!
Duff didn't sign for Spurs because they are rubbish. Simple as.
Duff signed for Newcastle for more money, it seems, on the face of it, the only reason. I am aware that Tottenham have an abundance of midfielders, but Duff is a cut above quite a few of them, and would quite easily get a starting place in their team when fit. The only reason I can see why he turned down the chance of playing for a team guaranteed a place in Europe to sign for one who were not 100% in Europe would be money
I agree there'ss very little to choose between Spurs and Newcastle. If I was in this position I would move to Spurs because they have the better manager and a greater influx of young players. I don't rate Roeder, I feel he only looked good because Souness was so inept before him.
