I must admit, I find it strange that the coach has persisted with Kahn and Lehmann for so long and not really brought any of the younger keeperrs through. But then, I am an outsider looking in, and there's probably a reasonable explanation

Yes, there has been backtracking. Lehmann has perhaps declined more than expected and the DFB line (until recently) was that he *had* to get first team play in order to be first choice for Euro 2008. But that did not happen - so there has been backtracking.

The other way of looking at it is that the other two selections are regarded as reliable enough, so no worry really.

After watching Lehmann's two clangers in the friendly last week, I'd be worried if I was a German. His form hasn't been great for Arsenal this season, hence the reason he has been left out of the first team for pretty much most of the campaign.

I want the Germans to win, as I love the country and the people and won't have a word said against them, but the keeper situation does worry me. It's all very well saying that the 2 back ups are pretty reliable, but I just hope that Lehmann doesn't repeat those kind of errors in a match.

Oh, and by the way, my good will towards the Germans will stop for the 2 matches we play against them in the WC qualifiers, and I hope we put up a better show than we did last time over here!!!

To be fair, the Germans have been the European form team of the last two years and rolled over everyone up to qualification which is why they are favourites - so hardly a disgrace to lose to them Smile.

Well, we're almost there now, one more day to wait ..............Big Grin.

The way we played last December was very, very bad and we could have given them a proper game if we hadn't been so scared, or at least, that's the way we seemed to play. I wouldn't have been ashamed if we'd played better though, as you say, and it's never a disgrace to lose to the Germans.

Yep, just one more day and then the talking stops...

That's hardly putting their neck on the line given that these are the two UK bookmaker's favourites right now Wink.

Italy are a favoured pick here in Germany. That's probably in part because the WM 2006 semi defeat is a bigger memory here. And also because of a higher regard ofr the Italian style.

Portugal also highly regarded largely on the basis of the players in the CL final.

It's also the way the draw pans out and Spain have a chance of progressing through that draw, although I wouldn't bet against Italy or France against them.

Germany v Italy final for me
