"UEFA have confirmed that Liverpool will be among the top seeds if they qualify for this season's Champions League.

The Reds face a two legged qualification game before entering the competition proper, but if they get through the tie they will be one of the top eight seeds in the group stages of the competition.

Manchester United are also in the elite group along with Arsenal, although Arsene Wenger's side will also need to qualify first.

Chelsea, despite being Premiership champions, have only been listed in the second group of seeds and so face the likelihood of being paired with one of the continent's top sides when the competition gets underway.

The draw for the group stages of the competition will take place in Monaco in August."

Top pot of seeds for Champions League according to current UEFA co-efficient:

1 Barcelona (Spa) 127.0pts, 2 Real Madrid (Spa) 120.0, 3 Inter Milan (Ita) 112.0+, 4 Liverpool (Eng) 105.9, 5 Arsenal (Eng) 101.9, 6 Man Utd (Eng) 100.9, 7 Valencia (Spa) 95.0, 8 Lyon (Fra) 89.7.

Second seeds:

9 Porto (Por) 87.5, 10 PSV Eindhoven (Hol) 81.6, 11 Bayern Munich (Ger) 80.9, 12 Chelsea (Eng) 79.9, 13 Roma (Ita) 76.0, 14 Ajax (Hol) 60.6, 15 Celtic (Sco) 60.0, 16 Lille (Fra) 54.7.

Seems a bit unfair on Chelsea's part. After all it is the 'Champions' League. But hey, Im not really complaining Big Grin

Of course, it's all based on European results after all, and Chelsea have hardly set the world alight in this respect, have they?

And that's the funniest part of the whole thing. They've been trying for years to get into G14, and now they're the richest club in the world, they still can't get into it

i thought they were extending G14 a few years back, but it never happened rangers and celtic have been trying to get in like chelsea

but after the recent shananigans in italy with the match fixing do you think spaces should be made available? teams cant be proven to have taken the game into disrepute and be aloud to stay in the elite?

so there's an average French team (PSG), an average German team (Leverkusen), an almost bankrupt German team (Dortmund) and 2 crooked Italian teams in AC and Juve. Hardly a ringiong endorsement for G14 really.

I'm not getting at German football clubs, as I have a new found love of all things German, but it's a bit like having Bolton and Man. City where those 2 are concerned

I think it's also based other things, otherwise Lyon would be higher up if it was just European results. I'm not too unhappy though, because at least Lyon are in the A list.

Its based purely on results over 5 years. Not 3 years. Each years results and how they are calculated are published on UEFAs website FFS. And yet people still say its fixed lol.
