One player we are missing at liverpool is one more creative spark and i think that liverpool are missing david silva! if we sign him then we would have 4 actual match winning players and if you look at all the other so 'called' big 3 they have plenty of match winning players. If were even going to compete for the league we need to have a player who is going to have a spark. Even though i feel this season, after watching all the pre season matches i feel as if we are closer with btter players with the likes of robbie keane but i still feel were lacking in the wide departments and especially with ryan babel at the olympiks. Even if we dont sign anyone and we miss out, i feel this is going to be the reason why. Im full of optimism but lets just hope this wont cost us. In rafa we trust so lets hope he will bring in the 19th! Common Liverpool =] Lemme knw wah yoo think? cheerss!

I know that Liverpool fans adore Benitez, but I think he's partly to blame. Some of his purchaes have been very dodgy and he doesn't like to keep a settled side, whereas if you look at the teams challenging for the Premiership, they make only minor tweaks when necessary. You can't keep chopping and changing as he does and hope to be winning the Premiership.

I think he's an excellent manager but, if he stopped tinkering and kept a side together for a decent run of games, that would solve a major problem in my opinion. Continuity = success

yh but i think rafa has noticed that finally. If you remeber back to last season when we were playing the 4-2-3-1 we kept the spine of the team the same. Fair enough if he thinks he needs to change around the spine but we have a great spine with reina - carrager - agger - mascherano - gerrard - torres and with players like keane joing that just adds to the spine. If were going to win the league we need more match winners as well as continuity. And now that it seems that barry deal is almost certainly off and rafa suggesting we aree going to buy a left sided player .. maybe silva is the player .. i can only hopee .. yh he might be a little lightweight bit with the spanish players around him who will tell him what the league is like he will learn quika and he will bring this team what its lacking .. a creative spark .. players who can interchange aroundd. Just hope valencia seel and barcelona dont buy him as they said they were interested in too. Common yo reds =]

I think Liverpool need out & out wingers.

They've got a good defence, excellent midfield & a potentially world class front pairing.

If Benitez utilised a couple of bona-fide wingers, they'd be right on the money IMO.

The point about David Villa being lightweight is one I have to disagree with. He's no less or more so than Torres, and he was sensational last season. If Villa was to come here and link up with Torres, they'd be superb. But that's not going to happen now

people say that torres and villa were great together but that was in one match. Previously when they played they just did not work as a partnership. Thats why arragones in most of the warm up matches played with one up top as he felt they didnt work well. Dont get me wrong, i think villa is a very good player but as you can see torres likes to be the main man .. as you can tell from the euro 2008 final were he played his best gamee ... without villa! Seems like the silva deal could be dead as he just said he wants to stay in spain .. so im struglling to find another winger who could possibly do the same job as him. We need one moree .. we only have babel and maybe benayoun but that is not enough i dont feel to win da league! i hope they prove me wrong but we need someone else! stupid olympics! why is football even a sport there =]

I think Liverpool are going all out to buy Gareth Barry, but is he really the answer to their problem? I think they have centre midfield nicely covered. It looks like that deal is also dead anyway and I would hate to be working under Laurel and Hardy, so full credit to Benitez for holding out for so long. They're doing their best to ruin Liverpool with their bickering and meddling.

I would be looking to go for a winger, but who? It seems that you'll have to go for 2 for £18m, because that seems to be the ceiling for funds made available to Benitez for Barry, so my guess is he won't get any more for other purchases, and time is running out

I've often wondered why Liverpool wanted Barry so much.

Yes, he is a good player, but a club like Liverpool who already have some of the world's great midfielders are not in need of an £18,000,000 midfielder, unless RB just wants him as a squad player & I can't see Barry being happy about that.

For me Barry is not the answer to our problem i dont feel. Although i do rather barry very very highly and he could also play on the left too, i feel that xabi seems like he wants to prove a point and to me has been our best player in pre season by miles. But we are short in midfield with lucas and mascherano away at the olympics but is there any real point buying barry just fro two games when these players away. Anyway if barry plays for them in the uefa cup i think it wud leave im cuptied meaning that i doubt we would buy him. Thats what i think anyway. If anyone knws for sure please let me know. Well silva nw doesnt want to move to england so what does it leave us with? Nothing really! and i dont want us wasting more money on a winger whos useless. Rather we save that money and buy a good players then a distinctly average player. I always wanted to see joe cole in a liverpool shirt .. i can dream =] .. Think the boys a little genious! Smile but hey we gotta just ave faith in rafa for whoever he buys! Cant wait! want the Premiership sooo much and we can hope they make our dreams come true Smile come on Liverpool

Not a convincing performance and definitely not a Liege pen last night, but you'll have enough in the 2nd leg I reckon. Looked a bit ordinary though and Keane/Torres may take a while to settle, but they'll be great when they do

I think Rafa should pop down to South America and come back with a creative midfielder. Anyone decent in Europe is gonna cost a fortune and set off loads of the top clubs chasing.
I think getting a good young player from Argentina or Brazil they should have technical skill and won't cost the earth. The only real issue will be the work permit. Something the government should scrap as it handicaps english clubs when competing for the worlds best players.

Failing that a crack at getting Miguel Velloso from sporting could be the answer if they can get him at a reasonable price.

I don't think the English clubs are handicapped at all when going for the best players in the world. They pay the highest wages, something that appeals to South American players a lot. I'm not entirely sure about this whole south American thing anyway. For every Kaka there's a Kleberson, for every Gilberto Silva there's a Veron so you've still got to pick carefully and there is still a large element of the gamble involved

I think though if you have to wait till a player has proved himself in Europe you are not going to get the next Kaka or Messi because the clubs that have such players just simply don't want to sell them even with silly money sums £50 million upwards involved.

Whilst there are risks, they are the same with every new signing, and if you can get players cheaper you can afford to buy more thus increasing the odds of getting a star. I also think it has alot to do with the way the players are handled by the clubs that can make the difference in their development, for which I think Arsene Wenger is one of the best. He seems to have the ability to take seemingly ordinary players and turn them into top class ones and very good players into world class players like Henry, Viera & Fabregas.

Sir Alex really showed the way with this though if you have enough young talented players and really treat them right then you are bound to come out with at least a few world stars i.e Beckham, Giggs & Ronaldo.

But anyway my point was that if he pops over to South America he has more of a chance at getting talented young players at cheaper prices without so many other big clubs looking over his shoulder waiting to hijack the deal.

How may top class players have River and Boca produced over the years.

I think Wenger's at strengths are spotting potential in young players and also fitting the ordinary players you mentioned (Henry and Vieira, altjhough I'm not so sure you could have called them 'ordinary', even before they were at Arsenal) and moulding them round the system he employs.

Mind you, he's signed more Emmanuels than a Soho DVD shop Big Grin
