Giggs isn't English, he's Welsh. He was born in Cardiff (I thought everyone knew that) and, although he played for England schoolboys and has an English father, the Englishness stopped there. His Mum is Welsh

Michael Owen was born in Chester, to English parents and his grandparents are all English apart from one who is Scottish. So my point was that Giggs who grew up in England for a good part of his life (which is why he represented England boys no choice there i know) and has a father who is English is a hell of a lot more English than Owen is Welsh .

Owen grew up in Hawarden, and I also thought he was born there, may have been mistaken there. However, I hope you're getting your info from your own football knowledge, unlike Wikipedia, which says, as part of his biography: Later on when he was 15, Michael was recommended by a man called Raymond Elliott, only a watcher of one of Owen's matches, to try out for the biggest team in Wales - Cardiff City F.C. Owen subsequently went onto play and start his career at the club. Wikipedia has got to be one of the most unreliable sources of information ever as, to the best of my knowledge, and to any other supporter of Cardiff, or any club biographer, Owen never, ever played for us

I forgot to put in there that, further on in the bit about Owen, it says that he started his career at Liverpool, completely contradicting what they said earlier

I wasn't doubting you, it's just that I always knew that he lived in Hawarden, just never realised he was born in Chester

It seems I was wrong about Gigg's father though who is now reported as being Welsh. I can understand the confusion with him though as he was originally from Sierra Leone.

Yeah, he played rugby league and they lived in England. However, there's no way Giggs could ever have played for England

The problem with wikipedia is that its only as good as the last person to update it. It even contradicts itself on there saying he joined liverpool when he was eligible at 13 and then goes onto mention the trail at Cardiff... I don't doubt he went straight to Liverpool. I remember seeing an interview with him at the time he signed for Liverpools youth where he says he chose Liverpool because they were more likely to be successful than Man United or Arsenal ....oops

oops wrong agin looks like 50/50 quote: 'I am proud of my black roots and of the black blood that runs in my veins.'
Manchester United's Welsh International winger Ryan Giggs gave a remarkably frank interview in the French weekly L'Eqipe Magazine, when he publicly acknowledged his black heritage.
'Most people do not know that my origins are African-Welsh, in fact only the people who are close to me and who count for me know my whole story.'
'Looking at me from the outside, it is not very obvious, I know but half my family is black and I feel close to their culture and their colour. I am proud of my black roots and of the black blood that runs in my veins. I do not wish to hide my origins, nor do I seek to make it a subject of conversation. I am what I am.'

Not too many though. He proved how immature he is when he stormed off the BBC World cup coverage last year when he didn't get what he wanted. And he was always the first to moan when he wasn't picked for England. This rang a bit hollow when he was being watched by an England manager and got involved in a petty running feud with any player who successfully wound him up, which usually didn't take much effort

I have, in my possession, a ticket for Liverpool v Cardiff. Like a lot of clubs, Liverpool have cut our allocation from the amount that's normally given up and we have only 5,200 tickets available to, firstly, our Ambassadors (people who bought season tickets before the end of May) and we sold 2,000 before lunchtime today (they went on sale from 9am today). I look forward to exchanging banter with any of you Scousers out there (You know who you are! )
