Question:
After the Zidane incident and speculation that the fourth offical made his decision by what he saw on the big screens, should the officals be able to use video replays????

Choices:
Yes
No
Don't Care

I don't think it really matters. Video replays lend themselves to games like GridIron and Cricket which constantly stop and start.
Football should be a flowing game. Besides what would we have to argue about if the game was perfect?

No, I don't think so either. I like football how it is, well, except for the diving and cheating.

If they were to introduce it, they would have to draw a line at the seriousness of the incident, which requires video replays.
Eg. to see if the ball crossed the line, and not to see if the ball was out of play etc.
But I fear if they introduce replays, then it'll spread to every nook and cranny of the game.

I don't think the 4th official would've seen it on the big screen, as mentioned above, as I think they have strict guidelines on what can be replayed on those screens.

Leave it be I say. The game is fantastic as it is.

Saying that, I do think anyone who blatantly dives during a match, and is found out afterwards by the FA/FIFA/UEFA via replays, that player should receive a one match ban.

I agree with this! The foreginers have brought this is too the english game and soon will be watching youngsters on sunday mornings trying to cone the ref, because they are trying to copy off there "idols" such as ronaldo the little winker!

I work at a youth club for the under 11's, after the Ronaldo diving, i took a group of kids for football, they were doing just that, going down as if they were really hurt, but they were getting up laughing, they were mainly just taking the p$ss out of Ronaldo, they know its wrong and only did it on that one night.

No...theres enough stopping and starting now whith players going down (so to speak) for everything....Video replays would only stop the flow of the game.

Re the ball crossing the line though, is there not some technology like they have at Wimbledon they could use?....Just a beep in the ref's ear if is has?

It will spread to all parts of the game if it is introduced for one type of incident.

However, FIFA seem incapapble of not fiddling around with the laws of the game. Look at the offside rule.

And, on your third point, was that aimed at the Figo incident? It's true, he should have been banned for his head-butt, but under the rules FIFA introduced, they made it impossible for this to happen

It didn't have Figo in mind when I wrote that, but I do think that the double jeopardy law coming into effect, with his booking protecting him from further punishment, is stupid. If the FA can increase a player's ban after a red card and after the match, then they should be able to apply this to yellow card offences also.

The funny thing is, had Van Bommel stayed on his feet, after having a 10 second think about whether he should go down, then the ref wouldn't have booked Figo, and Figo would've been reprimanded post match and miss the England game.

I was actually thinking of Robben, and the whole Portuguese team, when I wrote that 3rd point Andy. Hopefully this would deter divers from doing so, especially in a tournament when the next match is a big'n.

I think in 'extreme' cases, maybe, but the pace of the game would be killed if the went ahead with it fully.
