Im kind of sad and excited at the same time. I know a lot of non Arsenal fans hate him because of some of some of the things he has done. But he is to me the best player that has ever played for Arsenal. A special player and I will be sad to see him go but it will also be the beginning of our time at the Grove.

It will be good to see a magnificent ground like that in Britain which is used week-in, week-out

I'm not a fan of Arsenal, but I like Bergkamp and his style of play.

One of the best ever foreign imports to the British game in Dennis Bergkamp gets a final chance to say thanks to the fans in Arsenal's very impressve new Emirates stadium today against Ajax.

Top class player for sure who will be be remembered like Zola very fondly in this country.

0-1 Ajax.

Should be good in the 2nd half when all the legends come on as its very dull at the moment.

Bergkamp has gone off probably to save himself for the next 45mins.

I'm not an Arsenal fan, but I'm a great admirer of Bergkamp. Definitely one of the best foreigners to grace the Prem, along with Zola, Henry and Cantona.
He knocked the Argies out of the 98 World Cup as well, and dedicated it to England. Good lad.

Its turned into 1-0 to Arsenal (Henry) and Davids (cannot have a Spurs player scoring in the Gunners new home!) has just been hacked down when clean through....De Boer(Frank) then missed badly.

All of Dennis mates from Arsenal and Ajax came on at half time and are playing which is good and a nice touch.

First half was a bit of a non event.

Second half/game depending on if you listen to the stadium tannoy or C5 was a lot better.

Memoral moments Cruiff coming on and Van Basten nearly repeating his Euro championships goal. The goalie apologising for saving the last minute goal against Bergkamp....Oh and of course 'the grimster' Grimandi who was already a hero who hacked down Davids rather than see a spurs player score in an empty net. De Boer deliberately missing the resulting penalty.

They only played 35 mins of the second half/game though Confused

That was hilarious.

Van Basten's 'Gazza-esque' volley was magic!

I'm not an Arsenal fan, but I have to admit that Dennis is one of my favourite players ever.

He was always a United fan as a boy & I was desperate for SAF to try & sign him in 1997 after King Eric bowed out.

Bergkamp was at his best in 1998, when he played some of the most amazing football I've ever seen in the Premiership.

Most Arsenal fans think that Henry is king, but I say that Bergkamp is the greatest Gunner of all time.

A lot of gooners will agree with you though including me. He was the best player ive ever seen in an arsenal shirt.

Actually Bergkamp has been a Spurs fan since a kid and his dream was playing for them, but Alan Sugar wrecked his dream and wouldnt pay for him when the opportunity arose, so he went to Arsenal.

I didnt see or hear the match but from what i have heard from Spurs and Arsenal fans, Davids ran the show, i still cant see him having a massive input this season, we have to many midfielders, we play him out on the left anyway when c/midfield is his best position.

He wasnt a spurs fan. There are many many quotes of him refuting that fact yet the spuds still persist in their desperate myth that he was a spud fan. He said he admired Hoddle that is the extent of it. His father was a united fan syntax he WAS named after denis law ...you do the maths.

I am PMSL that davids ran the show since he didnt play for most of the game Big Grin... sure he desperately tried to score a goal and it took a legendary cynical foul to stop him Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Giles i love you. Frankly he forgot it was dennis's day and it was for charity. He so desperately wanted to piss all over it. Thankfully De boer kicked the penalty over the bar with derision to show what he thought of it.

If anything the young Klaas Jan Huntelaar deserved it for scoring the first goal and a tenatious and good first game/half performance.

Sorry, Capt, you're incorrect there. Berghkamp was a Tottenham fan as a kid and, as Wot's said, it was because Sugar wouldn't cough up the money that he went to Arsenal.

And he was named after Denis Law, but his Dad put one too many 'n's in his name

Also he went to Arsenal because they were in Europe, the spuds have traditionally outspent Arsenal. That year was no exception. As I said before that year Mr Sugar had given up on 'carlos kickabouts' who would only stay for a year or so and said so just after we signed him.

This translates in the spuds mind to they would have signed him...honest injin guvnor.

Actually checking it up, we did outspend them that year...they still found 4.5 million for Chris Armstrong though...

When i say we were in Europe before someone quibbles with that statement...I know we didnt qualify that year but we were in the cup winners cup final of that year.

bergkamp was definatly a spurs fan, seen an interview when he said it, it wouldnt be very politic to carry on saying it after he went to the ar5s would it. i remember sheringham and zamora saying they supported spurs as kids yet west ham fans claim they supported them.jermaine defoe is on record as supporting ar5e as a kid. we could and should have signed bergkamp but for sugers short sighted views on foriegn players, wonder if he considered firing himself for such a monumental balls up. btw ossie ardiles had a testimonial nearly 20 years before bergkamps, played ac milan at whl and maradona played for spurs in the game.

He definitely wasnt, Ive seen at least 5 where he said he wasnt a fan of any particular club but that he was a fan of Glenn Hoddle Its quoted as that everywhere. Of course if he wanted to lie he could just not say anything at all. I highly doubt this 'interview' you have seen was prior to him coming to Arsenal and the premiership either.
