Wasn't it West Brom, or Ipswich. It wasn't too long ago I think but can't quite remember.

Feck, thats a good one! Bet the England side might have been pretty poor!..by NE, are you ruling out all Mancs, Blackburn, Leeds (more central, and my bet), Bolton, and scouse sides?

So far none of you are right. But Ashes Summer is the closest - it's a midlands team.

Be patient Scouse, all will be revealed when people have had a few more guesses.

Got to have been Birmingham then, surely, but as for the rest of the question, forget it!!! Big Grin Confused

Possibly Aston Villa then, but can't remember when they had an English goalie.

... but what p? No not Derby.

You're right Ashes, it was Aston Villa, not Leicester.

OK, I'll put you all out of your misery!

The team was Aston Villa who, on Feb 27, 1999, fielded an all English team against Coventry at Villa Park. The team players were: Michael Oakes, Alan Wright, Gareth Southgate, Steve Watson, Riccardo Scimeca (born in Leamington Spa), Ian Taylor, Paul Merson, Simon Grayson, Lee Hendrie, Dion Dublin and Julian Joachim.

The three substitutes were Gareth Barry, Mick Draper and Stan 'Dogging' Collymore. The manager was John Gregory, also English.

You're right Cupra, they would have made a bloody awful national team. Villa lost 4-1, which was Coventry's first victory at Villa Park in 63 years.

The Coventry goals were scored by the Australian striker John Aloisi(2) and Dutch midfielder George Boateng (2). Dion Dublin scored Villa's goal

It's too late now, but as you've asked, I just meant the NE clubs like Newcastle, Middlesborough and Sunderland.

Top of the class Scouse!

I don't know if Bosnich was on the bench that day, but I'll take your word for it. However, the question was players actually fielded, and they were all English!

I think that the longest penalty shoot out was in an African nations final...Cant remember the two countries involved but it was about 10 years ago.. and it ended up something like 22-23 ? And that involved even the keeper having to take two penalties! Also i think one of the teams was down to 10 men.. due to a sending off..

"Just because its fun!"
